Responsibilities:
- Perform preliminary tests on patients, including measuring visual acuity, depth perception, and color vision.
- Assist with patient intake, including gathering medical history and verifying insurance information.
- Prepare patients for examinations by the optometrist, including administering eye drops and dilating pupils.
- Conduct diagnostic tests, such as tonometry to measure intraocular pressure.
- Operate and maintain ophthalmic equipment and instruments.
- Provide patient education on contact lens insertion and removal, proper eyeglass care, and general eye health.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
Skills:
- Knowledge of medical office procedures and terminology.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Basic understanding of human anatomy and physiology.
- Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems, such as Epic.
- Familiarity with medical coding and billing processes.
- Ability to maintain a clean and aseptic environment in the examination room.
