Webster University is Hiring an Assistant Director of International Student Life Near St. Louis, MO

Description
The Assistant Director of International Student Life oversees the provision of services and programs to support international students in their transition to Webster University and life in the United States and serves as a resource for international students to assist them to engage fully with Webster University and the surrounding community. The Assistant Director focuses on students' well-being, helping to ensure that students' housing, health, and other aspects of life in the U.S. are in place, providing an environment for successful study and student life at Webster. The Assistant Director works directly with graduate and undergraduate students at the main campus in Webster Groves and provides advice and consultation to staff who work with international students at other Webster University locations in the U.S. Working closely with colleagues in International Recruitment and Services (IRIS), the Multicultural Center & International Student Affairs, Academic Advising, and other units, the Assistant Director is a key member of the team that helps integrate international students into University life while increasing awareness in the Webster community of topics that impact international students. Reports to the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities*
Promote and support an environment of welcome and belonging for people of all cultures, values, backgrounds, experiences and perspectives
Promote and support a diverse campus community, accepting of differences, while guiding international students through transition to and success in the U.S.
Working closely with International Recruitment and Services (IRIS), provide pre-arrival onboarding and resources to international students, including information on housing options, transportation, health insurance, on-campus employment (at the main campus), and other logistics of living in the U.S.
Assist in international student arrival planning; provide information and resources on airport transportation, temporary housing, and other matters
Play a key role in planning and executing international student orientations; lead sessions on areas related to international student life
Advise international students on housing, health, insurance, driver's licenses, employment, SSNs, banking, and other logistics
For the main campus, provide information and resources on living in the St. Louis region, including shopping, cultural events and organizations, and other matters
Communicate regularly with international students on matters of importance and interest to them
Oversee student workers who act as peer mentors to international students
Work closely with the office of Multicultural Center & International Student Affairs to develop and deliver events and programming designed to promote interactions between people of different cultures and to build an inclusive and internationalized campus and community
Support International Recruitment and Services (IRIS) whose responsibility is maintaining students' compliance with the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP)
Maintain the International Student Life website and social media accounts
Assist international students in problem-solving in matters of cultural adjustment, personal challenges, and other areas related to study at Webster University and life in the U.S.; assist in crisis management as needed

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree and a minimum of 2 years of experience working with international students required; Masters degree and five years of relevant work preferred
Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills; sensitivity to the diversity and complexity of international student issues and concerns
Excellent communication and human relation skills; counseling and advising skills
Strong team player
Availability for attendance at evening and weekend activities and responding to international student needs beyond usual office hours
International/intercultural experience, preferably including experience working with international students and/or living abroad
Proficiency in a language other than English is preferred
