JOB GOAL
Maintaining County computer networks and systems including software, VPNs, routers and other physical hardware. Installing and configuring network equipment to update or fix hardware or software issues. Monitoring computer systems to improve network performance for computer systems and networks. Communicating networking issues with MIS Staff and MIS Director. Fixing software and hardware configuration issues for users on-demand or from inspection of the County systems. Helps with the continuing MIS needs and help coordinate countywide and departmental information activities. Provides helpdesk support when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Must have at least an associate degree with focus on computer information systems and networking. Experience in problem solving and repairs of systems. Demonstrate knowledge of information technology systems including active directory, domain controllers, servers, VMWare virtual environments, network storage, wireless networks, the fundamentals of networking, network security, routers, VPN, Network switches, VOIP, and operating systems. Experience with Tyler Technologies, Vanguard and Microsoft software is beneficial, but not required
DEMONSTRATED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be a self-started and be able to work alone.
Need to have an understanding of HIPAA and CJIS security mandates.
Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Ability to effectively communicate and problem solve with county departments and their employees, government officials, vendors, and service providers.
Knowledge of networking equipment, services and common networking protocols.
Knowledge of servers, active directory, DNS, DHCP and other server services.
Computer proficiency and understanding of various types of hardware.
Good working knowledge of county government operations.
Ability to climb and to lift materials weighing approximately 50 pounds.
WORK REQUIREMENTS
While sitting, operates equipment such as personal computers and peripheral equipment. Responding to departmental requests and calls for assistance may involve being on your feet for an extended period of time.
May on occasion, perform light to moderate lifting of 50-60 pounds.
A considerable amount of stress may be involved in meeting constant deadlines.
Work is performed in an office setting, but the employee will be expected to commute to off-site workstations when visiting with vendors, county employees and the general public.
Work may involve availability on weekends.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILTIES
PUBLIC RELATIONS
Establishes a positive public relations image of the County through:
- the effective handling of incoming telephone calls;
- personal contact with other employees, citizens, and elected officials; and
- providing assistance of the highest quality to County citizens.
GENERAL
1) Plans, implements, and participates in the daily operation of the County's computer systems.
2) Helps provide training to county departments on the use of hardware, operating systems, network systems, and major county applications such as word processors, spreadsheets, etc.
3) Troubleshoots hardware and software malfunctions.
4) Meets with MIS Director on a regular basis to advise of new projects and current projects status.
5) Documents procedures, hardware and software inventories.
6) Help implement procedures for minimizing computer security risks and threats.
