Purpose Statement

The job of Media Center Aide was established for the purpose / s of assisting assigned teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of students, and performing classroom clerical tasks in support of the instructional process.

JOB DESCRIPTION :

• Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments for the purpose of presenting and / or reinforcing learning concepts.
• Guides students in independent study (e.g. enrichment work, remedial work, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring student success.
• Implements, under the supervision of assigned teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students' academic success through a defined course of study.
• Monitors individual students, classroom, library, playground activities, etc. for the purpose of ensuring a safe and positive learning environment.
• Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and / or administrator in providing records / materials.

Other Functions :

Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

• Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; working as part of a team.
• Must be able to operate standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
• Must have knowledge of common office machines; and office methods and practices.
• Must be able to communicate with diverse groups; being attentive to detail; meeting deadlines and schedules; adapting to changing work priorities;

and working as part of a team.

• Must have knowledge of concepts of grammar and punctuation; and stages of child development.
• Must be able to communicate with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; and working with constant interruptions.
• Must have knowledge of instructional / tutorial procedures and practices; intervention techniques; age appropriate activities;

stages of child development; and safety practices and procedures.

Experience : Job related experience is desired.

Education : High School diploma or equivalent.
