Weber School District is Hiring a District Office - ESL Teacher (23548) Near Ogden, UT

A position has been declared open in the Weber School District for a part time English as a Second Language Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. This position is for 4 hours per day, 9 months per year. This position will require travel between two schools.

Purpose Statement

Under the direction of the Educational Equity and Federal Programs Director and school principals, the teacher is responsible for the education of assigned students and will create a flexible program and class environment favorable for learning and personal growth. The teacher will develop and deliver English lessons to students with varying levels of ability and will establish effective rapport with students. Further, the teacher will motivate pupils to develop skills and do so in accordance with each student's ability. Professional relations will be developed and maintained with other staff and parents.

Job Description:

  • Coach staff/teacher to promote best strategies to enrich the learning in content-area classrooms for the ELL students
  • Work as a team to determine the best placements and support for each ELL student
  • Determine and monitor ILDP goals
  • Ensure all Federal requirements are being met
  • Oversee and prepare ELL students for the WIDA test
  • Teach subject matter, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other appropriate learning activities.
  • Create a strong blended or online course at various language acquisition levels within stated guidelines
  • Develop lesson plans, adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs, and utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences which best utilize the time available for instruction
  • Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction
  • Control the storage and use of district owned property; make minor adjustments and request repairs as required
  • Maintain classroom organization and discipline
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere
  • Provide and maintain a safe and supervised environment in the classroom and on the school grounds
  • Devise and utilize techniques which accurately measure students' progress
  • Evaluate student's academic and personal growth, keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
  • Communicate with parents frequently to discuss academic and personal progress
  • Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff in academic and personal growth areas
  • Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission
  • Conform to district policies including attendance, absences and evaluations
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, school, staff, district staff and patrons
  • Participates in Professional Learning Community discussions at grade and subject levels
  • Regular and reliable level of attendance is a necessary essential function of this job
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Current Utah Teaching License with ESL Endorsement (Language Arts or English Endorsement is also highly preferred)
  • Successful experience working with English Language Learners
  • Ability to work closely with students to improve their language acquisition in reading, writing, listening and speaking
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of Utah State Core Standards and Utah State Board of Education adopted guidance specifically as it relates to ELL students
  • Strong understanding of WIDA language development standards and the ability to analyze and use WIDA ACCESS data
