Weber School District is Hiring a Digital Learning Elementary - English Language Learner Aide Near Ogden, UT

Language Learners Aide

A position has been declared open in the Weber School District Digital Learning for an Elementary Language Learners Aide. This position is for 2 hours per day, 180 days per year.

SUMMARY DEFINITION

Under the supervision of the classroom teacher (instructor), perform necessary duties of a responsible nature to assist in and meet the goals of the comprehensive plans for English Learners Development (ELD); to assist in the planning and implementation of programs for English learners (EL); and to assist in the monitoring of student progress and assessment both in-person and online.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform a wide variety of specialized online work; work independently; interpret and apply rules and regulations as appropriate.
  • Review, check, correct and compile a variety of information; verify data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established procedures relating to student development and progress.
  • Assist online teachers who are working on goals of supporting English Language Learners

(ELL), utilizing knowledge of adult learning theory and cycles of data analysis and reflection to improve instructional practice and meet institutional goals.

  • Assist in planning and implementing suitable online learning experiences for EL students.
  • Assist in implementing individual online EL educational programs via Google Meets.
  • Use EL data to support teacher coaching of English Language Learners within core content classrooms.
  • Assist and instruct online students in various areas of instruction.
  • Attend appropriate staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Collaborate with appropriate staff in developing appropriate strategies to meet the unique needs of online ELs.
  • Assist in monitoring individual student files.
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of logs, records, and files, including information of a confidential nature; maintain the confidentiality of information and records.
  • Supervise and/or participate in additional school aide duties as needed including online assignment support, proctoring, etc.
  • Work with individual students and/or groups of students in person and online for purposes of observing, testing, assessment, collection of data, etc.
  • May assist students, certificated staff, and/or parents with communication problems resulting from limited knowledge of English.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

  • Policies and procedures as they apply to this position.
  • Operation of a variety of office machines used in a modern office environment.
  • Technology including computers and computer programs.
  • Familiarity with Google Meets and online communication.
  • Familiarity with Canvas as an online learning platform.
  • Record-keeping techniques.
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
  • Oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Child growth and development principles.
  • Applicable sections of the state Education Code and other applicable laws.
  • Socioeconomic and cultural background differences of the general school population.

Ability to:

  • Supervise activities of students to maintain order and work harmoniously with staff.
  • Support the school/program in planning and implementation of the instructional program and related activities.
  • Show care and concern for students in an educationally appropriate manner.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality about the status of students and classroom activities.
  • Participate in professional development activities, conferences, or formal classes related to assignments.
  • Be creative and self-sufficient when assisting students with difficult concepts.
  • Establish and maintain supportive cooperative relations with all school personnel, parents, and students.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:

Experience: One (1) year of experience in performing various duties equivalent to a Paraeducator in an educational environment is desirable.

Education: High school diploma or GED required; advanced education/coursework and/or training in the implementation of instructional methodologies, child development, student assessment, etc. is desirable.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Physical Requirements: Consistent mental alertness; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects up to 30 pounds, occasionally 30 pounds; bending and twisting at the waist; reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally; dexterity of both hands and fingers while performing duties; seeing to read, write and use the computer; hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone and to make presentations.
