Weber School District is Hiring a Canyon View - Post High SpEd/English Learner Paraeducator Near Ogden, UT

A position has been declared open in the Weber School District for a Post High SpEd/English Learner Paraeducator. This position is for 5.75 hours per day, 180 days per year.

Job Description:

The job of Post High SpEd/ English Learner Paraeducator was established for the purpose/s of assisting assigned teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of special education students in the post high setting and K-12 English Language Learners; performing classroom clerical tasks; in addition to developing students' academic, daily living and behavioral skills. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, engaging in the following activities with support and direction:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in maintaining students' files/records for the purpose of documenting activities and/or providing reliable information.
  • Monitors individual students in classrooms, school and community, etc. for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or administrator in providing records/materials.
  • Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities; displaying tact and courtesy; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; being attentive to detail; and working with detailed information/data.
  • Adapts classroom work under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce lesson plans.
  • Provides instruction under the direction of the classroom teacher in one-on-one, small group or whole group situations
  • Support the teacher with instructional coverage when needed to allow support of individual students
  • Supports students, including providing instruction, in a variety of settings - special education classroom, general education classroom, one-on-one, etc.
  • Provides accommodations for students, such as reading tests aloud, scribe, alternate location for assessments, check-in/check-out support, etc. 
  • Supports classroom teacher(s) in collecting data.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities, such as Speech Language Pathologists, Adaptive PE, other paraeducators, etc..
  • Drives students for the purpose of providing transportation to/from interviews, job sites, etc. (High School only)
  • Trains students in accessing and utilizing public transportation.
  • Implements under the supervision of the teacher, instructional behavioral programs - IEP goals, behavior intervention plans, and classwide systems - in accordance with lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students' academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Participates in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned.
  • Assures student understanding of content/material being taught; answers student questions; assists student in reviewing assignments and test results 
  • Administers WIDA screener and annual WIDA ACCESS testing 
  • Performs and documents all federal processes pertaining to EL students 
  • Duties as otherwise assigned by the building administrator or special education for the benefit of special education students.
  • Regular attendance at work is critical.

Qualifications:

Basic Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting in student-size chairs) for extended periods of time
  • Safely manage physical or verbally aggressive students.
  • Lift occasionally up to 60 lbs. to a height of 36 inches and frequently up to 25 lbs. to a height of 36 inches.
  • Get into and out of full size 8-passenger vans.
  • Transport students safely in full size 8-passenger vans (high school)
  • Sanitize and clean equipment (work boxes, exercise equipment, walkers, wheelchairs, etc.)
  • Remain calm and follow safety procedures in emergency situations.
  • Participate, supervise and support students, including during inclement weather, in situations such as walking to/from bus, recess, etc.
  • Willing to participate in and utilize de-escalation techniques and MANDT training, if needed.
  • Participation in district van training.
  • May require working with bio-hazards (blood borne pathogens, human waste, cleaning/disinfecting materials, etc.)

Essential Dispositions: 

  • Must observe student confidentiality 
  • Must be discrete in responding to student behavior and educational needs whenever possible 
  • Will assist and guide students by providing appropriate role modeling, emotional support, patience, and a friendly and engaging attitude 
  • Must communicate with students in English and support English language development to facilitate instructional processes 
  • Regular and reliable level of attendance is a necessary essential function of this job

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must have 2 years of college, or a bachelor degree, or ParaPro Praxis (if Title I school)
  • Job-related experience preferred
