Join the Weaver team as a DSP for the Summer. If you are looking for a position that provides job satisfaction - this is for you!
Summary and Objective
As a Summer Youth Program (Program) DSP, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe, supportive learning environment while assisting two (2) transition-aged (14-21 years) students with disabilities in:
  • Exploring potential jobs (career exploration) through field trips and experiences, or
  • Developing job skills (work experience) at an assigned worksite at a local host business
The Programs are ten weeks (June 3, 2024, through August 9, 2024) and operate three (career exploration) or four (work experience) hours daily, Monday through Friday. You will be responsible for transporting your students to and from the Programs (either in your vehicle with mileage reimbursement or in a company-provided car). Your total working hours can vary depending on program, transportation routes and documentation time.
A mandatory 40-hour (approximate) paid training/certification process must be completed before the assignment. This includes Weaver-specific training, the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities certification training, First Aid and CPR training, Safe Driver training, PMT training and Med Pass training.
Essential Job Functions
  • Work directly with two students and escort them through various field trips and learning experiences (career exploration) OR support the students in on-the-job training and work experience at a job site to help them learn the job and assess areas for improvement.
  • Instruct students on how to complete job tasks independently.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing regarding desired work and progress of training.
  • Attend scheduled work sessions with assigned groups.
  • Provide soft educational skills training.
  • Advocate for students and model appropriate work behaviors.
  • Ensure work site safety practices.
Work Environment / Physical Demands
This work assignment(s) may be indoors or outdoors. You may work in conditions including exposure to blood-borne pathogens, communicable diseases, potentially infectious material, and aggressive behavior. Reasonable accommodation can be made to enable employees to perform their assignments. Some assignments will involve sitting, standing, and lifting for extended periods throughout the day.

Qualifications
  • 18 years of age and a high school diploma or equivalent (Required).
  • Higher education coursework and/or experience in education, special education, or transition-to-work (Preferred).
  • A valid driver's license and with no more than four [4] points (Required); Proof of insurance [if applicable]
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen (Required).
  • Regular attendance (Required).
  • Be able to relate positively to people who have varied roles and responsibilities.
  • Be able to perform independent problem-solving.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions.
  • Excellent customer service abilities.
