PEER NAVIGATOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Agency description and Position Overview

W.A.R.M ( We All Really Matter) is a not-for-profit organization comprised of domestic violence surviors along with their allies who are committed to ending violence against women and children in the Harlem community. We empower survivors through a holistic approach, focusing on the body, mind and spirit. W.A.R.M seeks full time, client centered peer navigators to support the needs of survivors on their path to safety and independence.

Task

Under direct W.A.R.M executive supervision

  • Provide program orientation to new clients
  • Assist clients in conflict resolution
  • Assist clients to meet individual goals
  • Provides training in developing coping strategies for women recovering from domestic violence
  • Help gather and compile information regarding W.A.R.M. resources
  • Navigates between new client and W.AR.M. team
  • Navigate referral system
  • Follow up and assist with client service engagement
  • Serve as a role model for clients by proactively modeling independence and safe living
  • Community outreach and assist in developing community resource directory
  • Distribute transportation funds as needed and document distribution
  • Document services in database, maintain accurate case records, prepare monthly reports
  • Adhere to workplace policies and procedures, including confidentiality,documentation, channels of communication, culture, dress code, and conflict resolution
  • Escort clients to court appointments
  • Assist with court, police involvement and order of protections
  • Works collaboratively with court partners, including the Bronx District Attorney’s Office and other personnel
  • Perform light administrative duties, filing, database entry, restocking
  • Produce weekly reports centered around goal setting and obtain those goals
  • Provide coverage as needed to other staff and team
  • Report to supervisor

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of domestic violence issues, including challenges and services needs
  • Good interpersonal skills with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to effectively brainstorm with W.A.R.M staff
  • Commitment to assist, relate to and effectively work with other women recovering from a domestic violence situation, empathetically
  • Minimum of one year in social services field, preferably working with victims
  • Preferred graduate of 2- or 4-year college; will consider a highly qualified HS graduate or GED candidate; National Certified Peer Specialist Certification preferred if HS/GED
  • Familiarity with Microsoft suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Good verbal and written communications, effective interpersonal skills
  • Bi-lingual in spanish, french highly considered, but not required

Salary: $50,000
