Job description
Must fulfill the goals and objectives of the Therapeutic Recreation Department, in regard to
resident rights, overall care and in the general working philosophy of the Therapeutic Recreation
Department, as well as professionally reflect the mission statement of the facility.
Assists in the development, coordination and execution of a wide range of activities for residents
to improve functioning, enhance self esteem, promote creativity and self expression, while
providing comfort, validation and reassurance. Functions as a member of the Interdisciplinary
Health Care Team in all areas related to the Therapeutic Recreation Department.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, and/or 2 years experience working with
a diverse population, including geriatrics. Art, Music, Dance Therapy or related field
- Excellent oral and written communication, leadership, time management, decision
making and motivation skills (e)
- Able to address the psychosocial needs of residents (e)
- The ability to deal effectively and professionally with emotional residents, visitors or
family members (e)
- The ability to relate to geriatric, infirmed and sub-acute population including residents
55 years of age and younger.
- Must be able to read, write and speak the English language required, knowledge of
other language helpful (e)
- Must have knowledge of diverse programming to meet needs of residents
