Description:

The Quality Control Supervisor impacts the ability of all customers to enjoy the benefits of fully utilizing all products by ensuring consistently high standards of performance are met through innovative and highly productive approaches taken in all assignments given. A list containing examples of those tasks (which may not include all) is found in “Essential & Minimum Required Functions” section of this document and has been provided to the employee upon employment. A list containing the marginal and distinct requirements to qualify for this position is contained in the “Quality Control Supervisor” section of this document. Employee is aware that all day-to-day activities are not formally documented as a procedure and are learned through verbal training from other experienced employees and managers.

Reporting Relationship:

Quality Assurance Manager

Role:

The Quality Control Supervisor should first seek to follow their reporting line when questions, needs, or concerns must be addressed. However, if necessary, The Quality Control Supervisor can seek support and/or attention by bypassing anybody in this reporting line for any job-related questions and activities. The Quality Control Supervisor can seek support and/or attention from the Human Resources Manager regarding any HR matters if they are not comfortable speaking to a representative in the reporting line.

Duties:

The QC Supervisor Manager must be able to:

  • Supervising and counseling QC staff, including evaluating employee performance and identifying employee needs (QC Inspectors, QC receiving and Label Clerks).
  • In cooperation with the Quality Assurance (QA) team, review, analyze and operate within the Company’s Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Overseeing the QC team to ensure duties are being completed judiciously, safely, and reliably while increasing awareness on QC issues across all departments.
  • Supervise/Maintain inventory into quarantine/hold and releasing inventory from Quarantine when proper disposition is required.
  • Analyzing, creating, and verifying lot breakdowns when necessary.
  • Supervise/Maintain the following processes: line clearances, First Piece, process quality check, sample collection/retention, finish product release, case label approval, In-Process Testing (seals, brix, moisture, PFT, viscometer, etc.)
  • Interface with all Departments on problem resolution, corrective action implementation, including employee training.
  • Assure the adequate training of Quality Control personnel.
  • Conduct regular walk-through of the plant to identify any Quality issues.
  • Monitor quarantined items for disposition.
  • Participate in Food Defense, Food Safety Team & Internal Audits.
  • Always apply safety measures.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the Executive team.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering).
  • 2 years of experience of quality management in food or dietary supplement manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • Certified HACCP and PCQI.
  • Experience with 3rd party Audit systems, preferred SQF.
  • Familiar with quality improvement tools such as Lean or Six Sigma techniques.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement

Work Environment:

The QC Manager will be expected to spend his/her time in his/her office, the production area, and at both warehouses. The production area can often be noisy and can have powders visible in the air. The production area is a high traffic area and when working in the production area one should expect to be careful, respectful, and mindful of others who are completing their duties. Both warehouse areas can often be noisy, with forklifts constantly moving through the aisles.
