Waystone Health and Human Services is a non-profit organization committed to supporting people with developmental disabilities and their families. This Massachusetts based organization is seeking a Controller to join the Finance Team.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Controller is a key hands-on position within our Fiscal department and will lead all day-to-day finance operations. The expectations for the role are to demonstrate strong and effective management. The Controller will assist in accounting and internal reporting. This individual will manage the month-end and annual audit process.

  • Assists the CFO with linking the organizations strategic mission and vision to measurable financial goals.
  • Incorporates Agency core values of Trust, Growth, Respect, Integrity and Belonging into all aspects of the role.
  • Manages finance staff in daily operations.
  • Supports effective development and performance of staff.
  • Manage critical elements of monthly closings.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements (B/S, P/L, C/F) and supporting schedules according to monthly close schedules.
  • Reviews balance sheet reconciliations in a timely manner with attention to unusual items that remain outstanding at the end of month.
  • Evaluate, apply and refine policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Advises staff on compliance issues and oversee all aspects of the accounting area.
  • Research new accounting pronouncements and identify any potential impact on financial results
  • In coordination with the CFO, manages annual audit process.
  • Reviews reconciliations and schedules for the annual audit
  • Prepares 990 documentation with CFO for auditors, as well as annual government filings (such as 1099’s, Census reporting, etc.)
  • Prepare Annual Financial Reports such as the Unified Financial Report (UFR), Center for Healthcare Information Analysis (CHIA), etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of data analytics for accreditation and proposal submissions, such as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), Request for Response (RFR), etc.
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Perform ad hoc projects or duties as assigned by the CFO


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS degree in Accounting required; Master’s Degree and/or a CPA designation are strongly preferred
  • Ten years of applicable experience in accounting, optimally in human services or other multi-divisional organization.
  • Thorough knowledge of standard accounting procedures and GAAP
  • Familiarity with non-profit financial accounting statements
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software packages, ideally Abila
  • Process improvement experience a plus
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Advanced MS Excel skills, including advanced formulas, tables, vlookups, pivot tables, sumif, and reporting
