Essential Functions (Job Duties):

ResearchAssociate:
Underthe direction of the Principal Investigator, provide scientific and technicalassistance to
complete laboratory based, clinical or population science research. Mayassist in writing research protocols and in manuscript preparation. Design and perform research protocols independently or as directed throughtraining in more difficult or specialized procedures to meet the needs of theresearch protocol.

Performlaboratory based scientific techniques or clinical/population science (humansubjects) research. Design and perform experiments, recruit participantsfor studies by developing surveys and interviewing candidates. Participate in implementing research objectives, ensuring compliance withall legal, regulatory and protocol guidelines. Assist staff withexperiments /research protocols as required. Communicate with principal investigatorand Postdoctoral scholars/fellows on the status of research.
Collect and log laboratory results, clinical outcomes and/or survey data. Evaluate and perform data analysis using graphs, charts or tables to highlightthe key points of the research results collected in accordance with theresearch protocols as stipulated. Proofread and edit research data anddocuments to ensure accuracy.
Prepare and present presentations regarding research results for professional,scientific and academic conferences. Summarize and organize data resultsfor submittal to academic and scholarly, peer-reviewed journals. Writescientific manuscripts and other documents for publication. Fact-check,proofread, and edit research documents to ensure accuracy.
Maintain the laboratory work areas includingroutine maintenance on laboratory equipment as required. Order and organize required research supplies and records. Maintaincleanliness and organization of work station.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Post-DoctoralFellow:
Basedon the year of the scholar/fellow, this distribution will change. Earlier intheir career they will directly conduct research, whereas later, as they becomeready to apply for other positions or transition away from postdoc status, theyfocus on papers, grants etc. The functions listed in the tablebelow are suggestions and would be best categorized and assigned by thementor/sponsor, in close collaboration with their postdoc, as they consider andcomplete the Individual Development plan that each postdoc at WSU is expectedto complete and revise each year.

Evaluate and perform preliminary analysis of the data using graphs, charts ortables to highlight the key points of the research results collected inaccordance with the research protocols as stipulated.
Prepare and present presentations regarding research project results forprofessional, scientific and academic conferences. Summarize and organizedata results for submittal to academic and scholarly, peer-reviewedjournals. Write scientific manuscripts and other documents for publication.Fact-check, proofread, and edit research documents to ensure accuracy.

Unique Duties:

The title of Postdoctoral Fellow applies to scholars who receivefinancial support in the form of a fellowship or stipend, usually from an outside agency, either directly or distributed through WSU on behalf of the sponsor. Qualifications:

Knowledge,Skills and Abilities:

Ability to work independently. Ability to analyze, summarize andinterpret research findings in reports and communicate results. Knowledge ofscientific integrity principles. Excellent time management and organizationskills. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to workwith others in a collaborative environment. Microsoft office softwareskills.

Research Assistant:

Bachelor'sdegree

Bachelor’sdegree in a related field of study, preferred. Requires advancedknowledge, predominantly intellectual in character, in a field of science orlearning acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectualinstruction.
Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)

Experienceperforming basic research techniques, preferred. 

Post-DoctoralFellow:
Doctoratedegree

Requiresadvanced knowledge in a field of science or learning, predominantlyintellectual in character.

This knowledge is acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectualinstruction.

Intermediate(3 to 4 years job-related experience)

Jobrelated experience can include doctorate training. Experience performingbasic research techniques,
preferred. Must have distinguished themselves in research. Priorrecipient of funding for research based on individual achievements.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required (Master's Preferred) for Research Associate position; Doctoral degree required for PostdoctoralResearch Fellow position.
