I. Job Summary

Works in a technical role offering support and guidance to Information Systems and WMH staffs as necessary. The Network/Systems Administrator/Programmer is a key resource throughout the organization. Serves as a liaison for customers and technical staff for software and related hardware support issues. Will possess strong technical skills, the ability to coordinate activities of multiple systems. Assures that proper training methods are used by the other technical analyst. Other technical requirements include the management of the local area network, servers and software. Assist with support, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairing of PC's and printers, email, print routing and FormFast. The Network/Systems Administrator/Programmer is responsible for providing status information to the Sr. Systems/Network Administrator as well as participating with the Information Management Functional Team for planning and problem solving throughout the facility. Works as a Team member of the Information Systems Department.

The Network/Systems Administrator/Programmer must have strong leadership skills; and knowledge of hospital policies, procedures and operations. Also must have excellent communication and organizational skills, respect of hospital departments, and working knowledge of all departments' location of equipment and LAN drops. Must be detail/results oriented and have the ability to train others effectively. Must be able to troubleshoot problems, make corrections, and keep a record log of problems for communications to McKesson. Unresolved problems or suspected errors could be detrimental to the Information Systems department as well as other departments throughout the hospital. Actively participates in system support and must have the ability to work effectively with other departments.

II. Duties And Responsibilities

  1. Document and track Information Systems service requests, insuring that customers needs are met in a timely and satisfactory manner.
  2. Troubleshoot email problems with SilverSky.
  3. Guide hospital staff through escalated problem resolution and other projects as necessary.
  4. Assure that project deadlines for technical requirements are met for all hospital installations and upgrades.
  5. Provide technical support to hospital staff in an accurate and professional manner.
  6. Assist Physician Offices with setup and troubleshooting of connectivity issues.
  7. Responsible for all network and system administration issues under the direction of the Sr. Network/Systems Administrator.
  8. Plan for implementation of network and server software and hardware upgrades under the direction of the Sr. Network/Systems Administrator.
  9. Seek out continuous self-improvement and completes professional self-growth opportunities.
  10. Assure the WMH systems are secure and maintained.
  11. Set up all hospital employees, physician offices, and business associates logins and passwords, maintaining privacy and security in the absence of the Systems Security Administrator.
  12. Knowledgeable and supportive of WMH mission statement and values.
  13. Other duties as requested as to support other LS. Team Members to meet deadlines, updates, and/or staff shortages.
  14. Employee authorization for access to EPHI is determined by job function and is under the direction of his/her Department Director or Nurse Manager.
  15. Employee will be required to work during any weather related incidents or other natural disasters and/or any emergency situations that may arise.

Other Responsibilities:

  1. Perform upgrades to the hospital software and hardware systems.
  2. Take call as scheduled.
  3. Participate in development of Information Management goals and priorities.
  4. Maintain and support system security and patient confidentiality.
  5. Adhere to WMH annual employee requirements and organizational policies.
  6. Maintain open and successful customer and vendor communication.
  7. Develop system(s) policy and procedures for network system administration.
  8. Travel to off site training locations as necessary.

III. Education

A high school diploma is required. At least a technical diploma is required in areas such as Systems Administration Computer Operations and/or Network (LAN) Management. Education in Windows software, SQL, Windows Server Technology, Troubleshooting PCs, Printers and Networking is required. Certification in Windows is preferred. Must maintain continuing education as it relates to current technology.

IV. Qualifications And Experience

Must have worked in the electronics and/or computer field for at least two years. Must have experience in UNIX, SQL, Ethernet Networks, LAN Management, and all versions of Windows. Also experience in computer based systems including hardware and software is required. Other PC based software is preferred.

V. Physical Demands

Must be able to do the following on a constant, ongoing basis:

  • See sufficiently to read instructions, use a PC or Visual Display Terminal, use a calculator for mathematical computations and audit errors
  • Converse appropriately with individuals both inside and outside the hospital
  • Give and receive simple and complex instructions
  • Read and understand written language
  • Concentrate and remember varied job duties
  • Prioritize work of position
  • Solve problems ranging from simple to complex
  • Use both hands for typing and data entry
  • Lift and carry 25 - 60 pounds ongoing basis
  • Climb stairs.
  • Sit for long periods of time
  • Reach, stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl, climb, twist, lift, carry, push, pull tasks

VI. Effect Of Error

Failure to identify and correct errors may be considerable if not detected before updates are made, therefore causing errors to run unnoticed for extended periods of time. Verification of input both through display and printed means necessary prior to software updates. Responsible for identifying errors, making corrections, and researching problems to accomplish goals of the Information Systems Department and the respected supported departments. Using unsuitable methods and procedures in the operation of equipment could be detrimental for both departments and the hospital.

VII. Working Conditions

Work performed in a well lighted, heated and cooled office with a high level of activity. Office is small and noisy at times. Must be compatible to work closely with others for long periods of time.
