Job Description
The WCPS Instructional Coach collaborates with district leadership to enhance teacher efficacy by providing ongoing professional development, building teaching skills, completing walkthroughs and assisting teachers in applying new knowledge. The WCPS instructional coach must be able to work well with teachers within their base school, teachers throughout the district and other education professionals in such a way that improves teacher efficacy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supports the philosophy and vision of the school system and Teaching and Learning Department.
• Facilitates the professional and intellectual development of teachers and instructional assistants.
• Helps to build positive relationships between teachers and administrators.
• Communicates, implements and demonstrates practices in instruction and planning for instruction that are known to improve teaching and education in general.
• Communicates information between students, teachers, administrators and the community in general.
• Reacts to changes within the school system or Teaching and Learning Department.
• Works with teachers to find effective ways to respond to student needs. (academic and social/emotional)
• Provides responsive professional development that includes monitoring and follow-up.
• Completes routine classroom walkthroughs focused on implementation of district initiatives.
• Attends required professional development.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of evidence and research-based practices.
• Effective use of evidence and research-based practices within the classroom as evidenced by evaluations and positive impact on student outcomes.
• Demonstrates the ability to analyze data and guide others through the process of determining next steps.
• Demonstrates proficiency in using Microsoft Office, Schoolnet, Google applications, Zoom and technology in general.
• Possesses knowledge of a variety of assessment tools, especially STAR, Istation and assessment practices.
• Assumes positions of leadership and intervenes when current teaching methods are not effective.
• Demonstrates a wide knowledge of ELA and math curriculum and subject matter.
• Understands the social issues children face and how these can interfere with learning. (SEL)
• Possesses the desire and ability to support teachers intellectually, morally and emotionally.
• Demonstrates creativity in finding new ways for teachers to provide education.
• Experience with and understanding of the School Improvement Team decision making process, NC Indistar online planning tool used to develop school improvement plans and IABS framework.

Education and Experience:
Candidates must have an active teaching license with a minimum of five successful years of teaching experience as evidenced by EVAAS and other performance indicators, leadership role in the school and/or district and master's degree in education related to curriculum and instruction, preferably with an administration and supervision endorsement.
