Purpose/Description

Senior Accountants in the Wayne County Treasurers Office (WCTO), Cash Accounting Unit work under the general supervision of the Department Manager 2. They perform the most difficult and complex accounting work involving independent professional judgment. Employees in this class are responsible for the development of spreadsheets and utilizing other computer software in the completion of their duties. These employees also assist independent auditors, internal auditors and other County departments as directed by the manager.

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor's Degree from a recognized college or university with a major in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
  • Two years (2) full time paid professional experience as an Accountant.

Task and Knowledge

Task

  • Run and compile the daily polling and investment reports, identify any discrepancies, and post to the Resiq2 system.
  • Monitor and settle the positive pay exceptions daily.
  • Reconcile the Controlled Disbursement Account monthly.
  • Reconcile the Payroll Account monthly.
  • Monitor the Stadium Excise payments, create late & missing payment spreadsheets and correspondence, file liens, and work with Corporation Counsel and the Auditor General to identify and assess for non-compliance.
  • Reconcile and disburse the Stadium Excise Tax monthly.
  • Reconcile and disburse 911 Surcharge collections quarterly.
  • Reconcile and process JD Edward voids when received from Accounts Payable.
  • Prepare voucher and journal entries when necessary.
  • Reconcile the Retirement Account monthly.

Task and Knowledge continues

  • Assist other Wayne County departments with printed check inquiries.
  • Serve as back-up for Cash Accounting Accountants & Account Clerk.
  • Daily cash reconciliation work.
  • Replacement & forged check affidavits.
  • Examine financial records or processes.
  • Examine financial records.
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable for the annual purging of stale dated checks.
  • General knowledge of and ability to use financial accounting software, such as JD Edwards and advanced knowledge of Excel software is preferred.
  • Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
