LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) – Plainview Campus

DEPARTMENT: Office of Admission

SUPERVISED BY: Director of Undergraduate Admission

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Enrollment Coach/LaFamilia Outreach Specialist will be responsible for supporting Hispanic students and their families through the college admission and enrollment process. This position will exhibit superior customer service and communication skills as well as professionalism throughout daily interactions and communications with students and parents including phone calls, emails, text messages, and information sessions held both virtually and in-person.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES:

  • At all times conducts him/herself with integrity and honesty and in a manner consistent with the mission of the university
  • Focuses primarily on the Plainview area recruiting market (100-mile radius)
  • Works to convert applicants to the Plainview campus into enrolled students by supporting students in submitting required documentation for admittance
  • Provides information regarding admission requirements, financial aid programs, scholarship eligibility, student life, and other aspects of Wayland to prospective students and their families
  • Effectively communicates with a wide array of university constituencies including current students, prospective students, parents of both current and prospective students, alumni, trustees, and other university departments
  • Schedules and performs tours of the campus to prospective students, parents, and faculty
  • Attends registration events with continued support towards students and parents as they complete the registration process.
  • Assists parents and students with enrollment-related issues as appropriate
  • Visit local high schools and churches to meet Hispanic or low-income students and address general concerns/hesitancies with attending college
  • Create and present information sessions in both English and Spanish that will address common issues facing Hispanic, First Generation, and Low-Income students.
  • In concert with Financial Aid Specialist, offer FAFSA and related college-application sessions at local high schools
  • In concert with Financial Aid Specialist, offer FAFSA and related college-application sessions in Spanish during events for parents.
  • Assist with on-campus activities, such as the Summer Bridge Program, and the School of Languages & Literature’s annual Language and Culture Festival competition for area high schools
  • Greet Hispanic or low-income students and their families who visit campus, serving as translator when necessary
  • Follow-up with Hispanic campus visitors to ask if additional questions have come to mind and to offer follow-up services
  • Continue to meet and communicate with any Hispanic students and parents as the students begin their college careers at Wayland, offering connective support
  • Attend national training/professional development activities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree required in education, psychology, sociology, Spanish, counseling or related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in college admissions counseling.
  • Experience in college admissions counseling for prospective applicants.
  • Knowledge of college programs, majors, admissions requirements and processes, and scholarship and financial aid resources.
  • Strong writing skills, time management skills, and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with prospective students and parents.
  • Ability to plan and implement student campus tours and conduct information sessions.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Hispanic culture
  • Native fluency in both Spanish and English languages strongly preferred.

  • A commitment to Christian higher education in agreement with the purposes and philosophy promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas and Wayland Baptist University
  • Punctuality, dependability, integrity, honesty and loyalty
  • Ability to present a positive attitude toward other office personnel, students and their families, and faculty and staff members
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Outstanding planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills as well as meticulous attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently toward enrollment goals as well as ability to accept direction
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Employee must be able and willing to travel and provide recruitment assistance to external campuses. Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
