Compensation:

In accordance with California law, the expected salary range for this position is posted with this position. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

Role Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to provide supplementary instruction and support in Braille, as well as assistive technology, living skills and financial management as needed. Provides the instruction necessary to accomplish students’ objectives.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide instructional assistance in the use of assistive technology hardware, including but not limited to personal computers with speech, refreshable Braille displays, laser printer, Braille printer, and portable computer note-takers.
  • Provide instructional assistance in the use of assistive technology software, including but not limited to screen access programs, software that accesses Windows environment, Braille translation software, and reading programs for the scanner system.
  • Provide instructional assistance using electronic mail and the Internet.
  • Write case notes on DOR consumer progress and keep the notes on the shared drive in the student folder each week.
  • Provide instructional assistance in the area of independent living skills and, in collaboration with the client, develop goals to address the client’s individual living skills needs.
  • Provide instructional assistance in financial management skills and in collaboration with the client, develop goals to address the client's individual financial management needs. Financial management includes medical needs, pre-vocational skills and social skills.
  • Develop and carry out a program of individualized financial management instruction that may include organization skills, self-advocacy, social services, department of rehabilitation, communication, housing, finances and budgeting, medical, pre-vocational and social skills.
  • Provide information to individuals and families about Medi-Cal services, refers to Medi-Cal eligibility sites and assist with access to Medi-Cal covered services to meet identified health needs. Participate in outreach campaigns, information, and referral activities, including health and Medi-Cal outreach.
  • Facilitate Medi-Cal application by discussing Medi-Cal eligibility process with client families; assist applicants with gathering information and filling out Medi-Cal applications. (Code 8)
  • Maintains supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Attends and participates in workshops, seminars, etc., to keep current with changes in Human Resources and incorporate best practices.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent client information.

Qualifications


Education:

  • A minimum of an associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field is required.

Experience:

  • One year of experience working with clients with visual impairments is preferred
