Compensation:

  • In accordance with California law, the expected salary range for this position is posted with this position. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

Role Summary:

Provide direct care for transitional shelter children and youth ages 0-17. Job emphasis is centered on the resident’s adjust and stabilize to shelter environment and transition to community settings. Focus is on developing daily living skills, socialization, independence, behavior management and pre-vocational skills. This is a non-exempt position reports to a member of the Assistant Director of Transitional Shelter Care Program.

Shift: 9pm-7am Sunday-Wednesday 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing of the TSC during the shift.
  • Coordinate morning routine by ensuring residents are awake on time and dressed appropriately for the day.
  • Prepares and oversees the staffing assignment for each shift to ensure that the health and safety needs of the residents are met and to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements are met regarding staffing ratios. 
  • Documentation/record keeping in children’s files including meal charting.
  • Attends staff meetings, in-service training, and other agency/program meetings as scheduled.
  • Helps organize/decorate TSC for special occasions, i.e., Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc.
  • Reports any unusual incidents/accidents immediately to the Supervisor, both verbally and in writing.
  • Promotes the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process by identifying quality indicators and opportunities for departmental and organizational process improvement.
  • Perform other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by the Assistant Director

The following additional duties are specific to the residential staff:

  • The number one responsibility is to the residents. Residents that are awake when the staff come on shift are to be assisted until they go to sleep.
  • Coordinate staff to perform regular checks on residents and document 15-minute rounds.
  • Staff are not to lay down or sleep, even if they are taking a break. This will be cause for immediate termination. Using blankets and pillows while sitting is not allowed.

Qualifications


Education:

  • B.A. degree from accredited college/university in child development, special education, psychology, or related field. Education may be waived in lieu of appropriate experience.
  • Valid California driver's license and eligibility to drive agency vehicles, unless disabled.
  • Must be 21 years of age to drive agency vehicles.
  • Good communication skills, particularly written and oral.
  • Ability to function as team member and follow through on recommendations from professional staff.
