    Who We Are:
    Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 15,500 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has 1 early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9?th – 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

    What We Need:
    The MTSS Specialist will provide building level support, coaching and training to assist in the implementation of the district multi-tiered service delivery model for meeting student social/emotional and behavioral needs.
    The MTSS Specialist will be directly responsible to the Coordinator of MTSS and SEL and indirectly responsible to the Principal of assigned buildings.
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    Tier 1 – Collaborates to ensure a high-quality classroom experience for all children at the Core instructional level.
    • Uses data from instructional and behavioral assessments to identify areas of strength and opportunity
    • Helps teachers and instructional staff develop research-based, instructional practices that support the development of students’ language, literacy, and mathematical knowledge and concept development.
    • Uses data to help teachers plan and evaluate whole group and small group differentiated instruction.
    • Uses coaching tools effectively (quality indicators, videos, coaching forms, and modeling.)
    • Helps establish and maintain building level PLCs/Data Teams.
    Tier 2 - Supports teachers in developing and implementing Supplemental Instruction
    • Uses data to help teachers identify and group children who need additional supports.
    • Helps teachers develop and implement classroom-based, developmentally appropriate interventions for individual children and groups of children to enhance their acquisition of cognitive and social/emotional skills.
    • Supports teachers in documenting children’s progress.
    • Facilitates the Problem Solving Process with the principal, support staff, parents, and instructional staff.
    Tier 3 – Supports teachers in developing and implementing Intensive Instruction
    • Assists in the development of structures to support and embed Intensive Instruction at the school.
    • Collaborate with Special Education staff in the implementation of research-based best practices.
    • Collaborate with ELL staff in the implementation of research-based best practices.
    • Collaborate with SEL Specialists and student support staff in the implementation of research-based best practices

    Provides Building Level Support by:
    • Partnering with the principal on the development and sustainability of the school’s MTSS model.
    • Overseeing data collection and progress monitoring at every tier.
    • Providing coaching support and technical assistance at every tier.
    • Creating a site-based resource and intervention repository.
    • Communicating effectively with students, staff, and community.
    • Demonstrating sensitivity to teachers’ individual differences and cultural backgrounds.
    • Allocating time and resources effectively.
    • Maintaining confidentiality.
    • Supporting and sustaining the district’s development of MTSS through attending district level PD and, in turn, providing building level instructional staff with coordinated professional development.
    • Performs other duties as required or assigned by building principal and/or Coordinator of MTSS/SEL

    Qualifications:
    • Valid Illinois Professional Educators License
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a certified teacher or student support services provider
    • Commitment to the belief that all children, regardless of circumstances, can achieve at high levels;
    • Demonstrated ability to multitask effectively and prioritize strategically;
    • Openness to feedback and willingness to take personal responsibility;
    • Passion to embrace the goals of raising achievement for all students and closing achievement gaps;
    • Demonstrated knowledge of the Common Core State Standards, curriculum, evidence-based best practices, appropriate research-based intervention and support services, and assessment procedures.
    • Excellent interpersonal communication, listening, facilitation and adult education teaching skills.
    • Ability to successfully work in a collaborative environment with administrators, teachers, parents,
    • and outside agencies;
    Work Environment: District position; may support up to 5 Elementary and/or Middle School sites as assigned by the Coordinator of MTSS & SEL
    Compensation: Per teacher contract, plus stipend.
