Crane Operator

THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE SOLICITATION - THIS POSITION IS BEING ADVERTISED THROUGH THE DIRECT-HIRE AUTHORITY (DHA) FOR DOMESTIC DEFENSE INDUSTRIAL BASE (DIB) FACILITIES AND IS OPEN TO ALL U.S. CITIZENS.

Term Position for: Crane Operator WG-5725-07 FPL 09

This is a TERM appointment NTE 2 years and may be extended for up to a total of 8 years.

Salary Range: $25.17- $29.34 with the potential of $33.19 per hour

Duties: Operates small jib cranes, pendant operated bridge cranes and low bay cab operated cranes. Select and Install weight handling gear such as cables, ropes, and slings used to lift, move and position large and heavy equipment such as cannon tubes, components, and machine parts. Operates forklift trucks with a capacity under 10,000 pounds to load and unload, stack and unstack, re-warehouse, and move boxes, crates, pallets, components, or loose items. Uses hand signals to guide crane operators.

Qualifications: Ability to do the work of a Crane Operator without more than normal supervision. Which includes the ability to:

WG-07 minimum qualifications: (1) Operate small jib, pendant, low bay cranes and/or other lifting devices; (2) setup gear such as cables, ropes, slings, and/or chains used to lift or position equipment and/or items.

Physical Effort: Reaches, bends, pushes, pulls and depresses the various hand and foot controls requiring continuous reaching, bending and moving of hands, arms, feet and legs. Works in a standing position and must keep their balance during starting and stopping motions of the crane. Frequently lifts and carries objects weighing up to 44 lbs. Mechanical lifting devices/other employees are available to assist with lifts of 45 lbs and over. Lifts items such as cables, chains, and dollies.

Working Conditions: Works indoors in a partially enclosed crane cab or outdoors in all types of weather. Ventilation isadequate; but heat may be uncomfortable while working indoors and near the ceiling. Is exposed to the possibility of cuts, burns, bruises and broken bones from falls while climbing to and from the control cab or while climbing and attaching rigging to the load; and handling wire and fiber ropes; serious injury from swinging loads, breaking slings and falling objects. Possibility of falling from heights of 30 feet or more. Incumbent is exposed to possible unpleasant noise, dust, dirt or fumes from the work area. Uses personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, hard hats, gloves, steel toe shoes

Requirements for Position:

· Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

· This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

· This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

· This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

· Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.

· This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

· Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

· You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.

· Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period.

· Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
