Water Avenue Coffee is Hiring a Lead Barista / Educator Near Portland, OR

Offering:

  • Schedule generally consists of Tuesday - Saturday 7:00AM - 2:00PM and may vary working across locations in SE Portland and Downtown Portland.
  • Competitive Wages:
  • Lead Barista (3 days / week): $17.00 / hr, TIPS!
  • Educator (2 days / week): $22.00 / hour

Join us in making Water Avenue the local cafe of choice with your experience to:

  • Serve as a barista in our cafes, providing exceptional customer service, preparing and serving beverages, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Make espresso drinks while maintaining standards set by Water Ave Coffee.
  • Act as an on-site resource for all staff regarding customer service, quality, and efficient cafe workflow.
  • Lead and conduct barista training for cafe teams and wholesale customers, covering brewing techniques, espresso preparation, milk steaming, latte art, and customer service skills.
  • Develop and execute onboarding, education, and training for barista teams.
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure consistency and excellence in beverage preparation, presentation, and customer service across all cafes and wholesale accounts.
  • Provide regular check-ins and feedback to our baristas to ensure compliance with all parameters and standards related to coffee.
  • Support other team members in daily duties.

Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years Barista experience in specialty coffee and customer service
  • Previous experience in lead or training role preferred, with demonstrated ability to mentor and develop staff
  • Valid Food Handlers card required
  • Knowledge of coffee roasting, brewing methods, and equipment maintenance preferred
  • Positive, professional attitude, and creative outlook
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to effectively teach and inspire others.
  • Valid Food Handlers card required.

Work is performed primarily in a fast-paced café with frequent distractions and loud noises.

Physical

The person in this position needs to occasionally or frequently:

  • Maneuver about inside the cafe/office to access food/beverage items, machinery, and other restaurant equipment
  • Operate basic office equipment
  • Operate basic cafe equipment
  • Ascend/descend a ladder or stairs to service the machinery, lights, ceiling fans, etc.
  • Be able to exchange accurate information while communication with customers
  • Be able to distinguish different tastes, i.e., sweet and bitter flavors.
  • Work in a noisy/distracting environment
