The Student Development & Activities Student Worker is a 19.5 hour per week student position responsible for supporting operations and special activities within the following programs of the Department of Student Development and Activities: Student Development; Student Activities; Student Organizations
Due to the nature of this student leadership position, candidates are expected to maintain or exceed the academic standards required for participation within the Department of Student Development and Activities:
  • Stay enrolled within at least 6 credit hours
  • Maintain above a 2.0 cumulative GPA
Continued employment is conditional on these standards and is reviewed at the end of each semester. This is a student position and all applicants must commit to being enrolled in classes for at least six credit hours at WCC for at least one year.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the programming and activities within the Department of Student Development and Activities.
  • Provide pre-event logistics support: planning, preparation, promotion, and organization.
  • Provide onsite event support: setup, check-in, activity assistance, and clean-up.
  • Provide post-event support: communication, data collection, assessment, documentation.
  • Host promotional tables for department programming and College activities as directed.
  • Develop marketing materials, including: print flyers, social media, and Internet postings.
  • Participate in public speaking for in-class promotions and campus-wide events.
  • Act as a tour guide/chaperone for college-wide recruitment and retention events.
  • Assist in maintaining campus bulletin boards and Student Services newsletter postings.
  • Attend staff meetings on Friday afternoons and provide a report to the department staff concerning programming (completed, current, and future events.)
  • Provide consistent interoffice communication to keep the staff aware of program progress, processes, and support needs.
  • Attend planning meetings alongside managers and learn to develop meeting agendas, meeting minutes, and communications is support of programming.
  • Consistently work to improve your skills within the S.D.A. staff competencies.
  • Help other staff members improve their skills within the S.D.A. staff competencies.
  • Record your professional experience and progress via resume, online tools, and portfolio.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Related Duties:
  • Represent the S.D.A. department in a professional and positive manner at all times.
  • Provide exceptional customer service: in-person, online, and over the phone.
  • Actively seek information and maintain a complete understanding of department activities.
  • Effectively communicate detailed information on events, organizations, college policies, department procedures, student responsibilities, support services, staff roles, and more…
  • Relay messages and meeting requests to appropriate staff. Run errands on campus.
  • Open/close/cover the front reception desk in absence of the Technical Assistant.
  • Assist in maintaining the checkout system and supply inventory for S.D.A.
  • Follow all department procedures as implemented by Director.
  • Maintain a clean and organized office area.
  • Participate on College task forces and committees as assigned by the Director.
Hours/Schedule:
This is an on-campus position. These schedule requirements will be in place for subsequent semesters after being hired and are mandatory to continued eligibility for this position.
Be available during peak event hours for at least two of the four peak days per week:
  • Monday – 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday – 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday – 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • Thursday – 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Be available for a total of 15-19 hours during regular business hours:
  • Monday – 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday – 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday – 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Thursday – 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Friday – 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Become available for evening and weekend events with advanced notice and scheduling.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be registered for 6 credit hours in winter, summer and fall semesters.
  • Maintain above a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Attitude and willingness to strive for excellent customer service.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Basic understanding of Google Drive, Google Calendars, and Google Keep.
  • Basic understanding on Internet usage, social media, Zoom, and web apps.
  • Ability to compose and edit office correspondence and other written materials.
  • Proficiency in correct English grammar and spelling.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional overnights for special events.
  • Maintain a positive, team-driven attitude while supporting our students, colleagues, and community.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Maintain and contribute to an organized workspace.
