Position Description

Functional Title: Construction Laborer

Exempt (Y/N): No Department: Construction

Date: December 2023 Reports To: Construction Foreman

Pay Range: $13-$19/hr.

SUMMARY

The incumbent is responsible for the operation of construction equipment to place and set water lines, taps and meters and repair water leaks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Fix water leaks in order to keep water lines intact and in good working order.

2. Install water mains as needed.

3. Install water taps.

4. Gather supplies and equipment for job assignments.

5. Maintain truck and equipment for service, cleanliness, and order.

6. Accurately report materials and supplies used for inventory purposes.

7. Maintain all related tools.

8. Perform manual labor with a shovel as required.

9. Execute all actions to protect the public health and safety in accordance with all applicable water regulations.

10. Assist other departments as needed or required.

11. Other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • A valid driver’s license is required but a CDL is preferred.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed for emergencies or while on call.
  • Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information to customers and the public.
  • Proficiency in the use of tools and equipment.
  • While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen in person and on the phone. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the functions of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); six months related experience and/or training.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Required: Driver’s License

Preferred: Ability to obtain Grade 4 Water Operator License

Preferred: Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

USE OF COMPUTERS, SOFTWARE and EQUIPMENT

Must have the ability to operate general construction tools, truck, dump truck, excavator and backhoe.
