Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated individual to join our ophthalmology practice as an Ophthalmic Technician and Scribe. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in assisting our ophthalmologist with patient care and documentation tasks. This position requires a combination of technical skills, medical knowledge, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

Patient Care:

  • Assist ophthalmologist with patient examinations, including taking medical histories, performing preliminary tests (such as visual acuity, intraocular pressure measurement, and pupil assessments), and administering diagnostic procedures.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and surgeries, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the process.
  • Educate patients on eye care procedures, medications, and post-operative care instructions as directed by the ophthalmologist

Documentation and Scribing:

  • Accurately document patient encounters, procedures, and treatment plans in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Transcribe ophthalmologist's observations, assessments, and treatment plans during patient examinations and procedures.
  • Assist with coding and billing processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and insurance guidelines.

Technical Support:

  • Operate and maintain ophthalmic equipment and instruments, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
  • Assist with diagnostic imaging procedures such as optical coherence tomography (OCT), IOL Master, Humphrey visual field testing.

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate effectively with other members of the healthcare team, including ophthalmologists, optometrists, nurses, and administrative staff, to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Communicate patient-related information and updates to the ophthalmologist in a timely and organized manner.

Compliance and Quality Assurance:

  • Adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and standards related to patient privacy, confidentiality, and medical record documentation (e.g., HIPAA).
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and initiatives to maintain high standards of patient care and service delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., biology, pre-medical studies) preferred.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) credential preferred.
  • Previous experience working in an ophthalmology practice or healthcare setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical terminology.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to providing compassionate patient care and maintaining patient confidentiality.

Pay: $21.00 - $26.00 per hour
