Position Summary

A Research Compliance Specialist provides programmatic support for the University's research conflicts of interest program. This person conducts compliance reviews in accordance with the University's policies, and federal and sponsoring agencies regulations, with minimal supervision; interprets applicable policies and regulations to resolve complex research and regulatory issues; provides expert advice to faculty, non-faculty, and committee members.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Independently researches complex relationships and transactions; monitors for compliance and identifies and investigates instances of non-compliance; prepares detailed case reports for review by the faculty committees; makes recommendations to the faculty committees to help resolve cases/situations; prepares reports/notifications to stakeholders of committee findings; ensures the integrity and security of confidential information; maintains complete and accurate program records.
  • Reviews and evaluates, with minimal supervision, faculty and non-faculty personal financial relationships related to research to determine the applicability of the University's policies and whether it needs further review by the faculty committees; has independent authority to approve financial disclosures.
  • Works directly with the faculty appointed committee chairs and ensures reviews are completed consistently and in a timely manner.
  • Provides advice and counsel to faculty, non-faculty, and committee members regarding University's policies and processes, and federal, state and sponsoring agency regulations.
  • Submits appropriate reports to federal, state, sponsor or regulatory agencies.
  • Helps develop educational programs, other communication tools, procedures and assists with policy development.
  • Assists with developing the delivery of electronic forms and electronic administration software programs.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated understanding of a research and regulatory environment, and ability to interpret regulations, policy and legal documents is highly desirable.
  • Excellent grammar, a critical eye and attention to detail are all imperative.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Able to effectively accumulate and organize data for reporting.
  • Able to effectively work with a variety of individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, identify and deal with potential problems proactively and exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to make progress on both long and short term goals while responding to frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to work successfully within a team environment.
  • Friendly, positive attitude, excellent customer service skills and a high degree of professionalism.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or five years of comparable work experience.

Salary Range

$44,700.00 - $73,800.00 / Annually The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
