Washington University of Science and Technology is Hiring a Librarian Near Alexandria, VA

Librarian

Overview: The Librarian must have an MLS or MLIS degree. The Librarian will assist with learning resources for students, inventory, classroom workshops, and other tasks as needed.

The main functions of this position include circulation, reference, technology support/maintenance, and library inventory, all with the goal of supporting our students’ research needs. Some other responsibilities might include keeping library statistics, ordering supplies, assisting students with the textbook ordering process, and proctoring placement tests. Gaining familiarity with the LRC’s research databases and resources will be essential to this position, as well as being able to work independently.

Based on the candidate's interest and the ability for additional administrative work, it can be a full-time position later.

CORE COMPETENCIES:
- Experience with online integrated library systems, such as Innovative Interfaces, Inc.; electronic reserves, and document delivery systems.
- Ability to use online systems, including the LIRN, Proquest, EBSCO, etc.
- Knowledge of issues relating to digitization and resource sharing in the academic environment.
- User-centered service philosophy and ability to be innovative and flexible.
- Demonstrated familiarity with information technologies and a high degree of computer literacy.
- Knowledge of office and administrative practices and principles.
- Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a diverse clientele.
- Ability to work collegially as a team member in a changing environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a diverse population.
- Must be detailed oriented and organized.
- Ability to exercise discretion and ensure a high level of confidentiality.
- Skill in operation of computers, related software applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).
- Knowledge of standard office equipment.
Required Education and Experience:
An MLS/MLIS degree
Previous library experience
Experience using electronic research databases and e-books
