    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    Unit I Salary Scale, 7.5 Hours/Day, 10 Months
    ROLE OVERVIEW: To facilitate Individualized Education Program (IEP) development, ensure achievement of students with disabilities, and maintain 100% compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    • Eligibility for Maryland State Department of Education teacher certification in Special Education.
    • Knowledge of current trends and legal issues in special education.
    • Excellent organization skills.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Excellent problem-solving and mediation skills.
    • Skill proficiency with computers and use of various software.
    • Successful teaching experience.
    • Interagency planning experience preferred.
    • Ability to organize, facilitate and manage multiple tasks.
    • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
    ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Collaborate with general education teachers, special education content teachers, and related service providers to develop, write, and ensure implementation of IEPs for students with disabilities.
    • Collaborate with building administrators to align special education staffing with the needs of students with disabilities as stated on their IEPs.
    • Complete and submit all required paperwork, i.e., Medical Assistance billing, SSIS, testing accommodations, etc.
    • Assist case managers of specialized programs with case management procedures as needed.
    • Conduct educational assessments of students to determine 1) disabilities in reading and/or mathematics and 2) continued eligibility to receive special education and related services.
    • Analyze and track student achievement through Formative Progress Monitoring Hub (to be conducted every two weeks for each IEP goal) and confer with special education content teachers to ensure use of data to guide instruction on a weekly basis.
    • Ensure the completion and implementation of Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans.
    • Ensure the delivery of all related services for assigned students.
    • Identify and document all Maryland assessment accommodations and maintain an up-to-date list of previous and current interventions used with students with disabilities.
    • Ensure all case management responsibilities are completed, verified, and documented, including progress reporting.
    • Communicate with parents and attend to student emergencies, as needed.
    • Assist with scheduling special education students.
    • Assist in developing the schedules of special education content teachers and oversee scheduling of paraprofessionals to ensure required services are delivered in accordance with IEPs.
    • Participate in case management/special education meetings with Supervisor of Case Management and Compliance.
    • Attend weekly student planning meetings including Classroom Focused Improvement Process (CFIP) meetings to assist in academic/pre-referral interventions and update Student Compass to include accommodations needed for IEP students and regular education students.
    • Ensure that IEPs are fully implemented within the students’ least restrictive environment.
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to students' IEPs.
    • Communicate with teachers, administrators, drop out prevention specialists, social workers, and counselors as needed to close achievement gaps.
    • Assist guidance counselors in the coordination of standardized testing for students with disabilities including provision of accommodations specified in IEPs.
    • Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools.
    • Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Special Education, Supervisors of Special Education, and building administrators.
    • Provide professional development to general education teachers in regards to specially designed instruction, Universal Design for Learning, accommodations, aids services, etc.
