Role Overview - The Audio-Visual and Communication Systems Specialist provides support, design expertise, and technical direction for Unified Communications “UC”, telecommunications and audio-visual systems infrastructure. The individual oversees day-to-day operations as well as requirements, planning, repair, and implementation of communications and AV services for buildings and systems.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma/GED.
Four (4) years of full-time experience providing telecommunication and AV support within a large-scale converged Ethernet infrastructure, including experience with VOIP administration and implementation and working in commercial environments with experience pulling, installing, and terminating Cat 5/6 and AV related cable and components.
CompTIA Network certification; Avaya, Cisco, or related unified communication certifications.
Knowledge of projection, light, and sound fundamentals in professional or educational environments.
Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of Windows, Chrome, and macOS.
Ability to work off-hours as needed/required.
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Possess a valid driver’s license with no court ordered restrictions.
Ability to work with minimal supervision, independently, and effectively to complete work assignments and projects in a timely fashion.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree in information technology, computer science, engineering or related field, or equivalent education, certifications, and VOIP/IP/AV technical experience.
Knowledge of the storage environment and how it interrelates with unified communications infrastructure.
Experience with implementing and configuring Unified Communications and AV systems, including intercoms, projection, and sound systems.
Experience with virtualization technologies.
Work experience in a K-12 educational setting.
Familiarity with the WCPS policies, goals, and programs.
Role Responsibilities
Proficiency in the full range of activities, including interpreting drawings and completing systems installations, modifications, maintenance, and repair of AV, VTC, and telecommunications and UC features and functionality.
Responds to and escalates issues to minimize disruption to schools and business operations.
Performs multi-tiered incident, change management, problem resolution, and end-user support and training.
Monitors faults, performance, and capacity issues; maintains records and prepares complex reports relevant to the operation of the telecommunications /UC and AV systems.
Responsible for transporting, setting up, and installing media equipment and audiovisual support tools, including speakers, monitors, cameras, and equipment racks.
Proactively researches, analyzes, identifies, and resolves trends of utilization or errors and implements appropriate performance tuning and troubleshooting techniques
Continuously conducts studies regarding AV, VTC, telecommunication, and UC systems usage and recommends changes as appropriate.
Confers with representatives of departments, personnel, and telephone service vendors regarding service, repair, adjustments, costs, corrections in service or billing, and the installation and removal of equipment.
Performs preventative maintenance to AV-related equipment.
Performs testing and evaluation of battery backup system and individual UPS units.
Remain current and competent by learning new technologies and obtaining certifications as requested by management or identified by the employee and mutually agreed to by the supervisor.
Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools.
Performs other duties as required.
