JOB SPECIFICS
Washington County is hiring for a Career Services Specialist. This position requires a unique blend of technology skills and customer service skills. Someone who has advanced Microsoft Office skills and experience using the internet and social platforms would do well in this position.
The Career Services Specialist coaches CareerForce customers regarding career development and employment search, including but not limited to: preparation to attain employment, education in computer/internet operations, resume and cover letter writing and interviewing skills. This position may work directly with program customers or general public users and may conduct training in structured workshops or other activities. The Career Services Specialist formulates employment relationships with the business community to help employers meet their hiring needs.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including individuals with limited English proficiency, and barriers to employment.
  • Experience in assisting individuals with diverse career background with job search and work-related activities.
  • High level of office technology skills including Microsoft Office, website navigation including completing online forms, and attaching documents.
  • Paid work experience in customer service, including timeliness, responsiveness, written and oral communications.
  • Experience using social media and virtual platforms (i.e. Webex/Teams/Zoom) for interacting with public.
SELECTION TECHNIQUE: Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted and the top scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration.
HOURS / DAYS: Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work schedules (hours and days) and location are subject to change based on department needs.
ANTICIPATED HIRING RATE: $20.98 - $23.28 hourly
JOB SUMMARY

EMPLOYMENT CRITERIA

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma (or equivalency) and two years of paid work experience in a Social Services or Human Services agency; OR
  • At least two years of post-secondary education and one year of paid work experience in a Social Services or Human Services agency

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists Career Lab customers by phone, email and in person to evaluate needs, strengths, and barriers to employment. Assists with computer use for resume development, job search, education, housing, transportation, food and community resources.
  • Contacts employers for job development opportunities. Provides leadership in developing and promoting marketing initiatives and strategic planning for job development. Acts as a liaison between businesses and job seekers to promote job seekers.
  • Represents Washington County Workforce Development Division with other county departments, contracted service providers, agencies, as a partner in the CareerForce System.
  • Enters and maintains data in a computer; edits, corrects and verifies; utilizes software programs related to area of assignment.
  • Prepares reports using state provided data to show employment information such as job trends and salary data, changes in the workplace and ways to enhance job searching techniques.

Performs other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is sedentary in nature performed within the Government Center or satellite offices. Some travel is required. Lifting requirement of 15-20 pounds on an occasional basis. Wrist and finger manipulation due to filing, compiling, or computer work. Equipment used may include, but is not limited to: computer, internet, printer, scanner, calculator, telephone, copy, and fax machine. Additional physical/mental requirements that occur may not be listed above, but are inherent in performing the position's essential functions.
Work interruptions are frequent. There is some pressure associated with dealing with individuals who may be emotionally charged and with project or activity deadlines and details. Driving or riding to work at a service center, attend meetings, participate in or lead training sessions, etc. may be required. May involve exposure to environmental conditions.
