Description

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with the accounting department and company leadership to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and efficient operation of the accounting department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting experience working with external audit and excellent analytical and organizational skills.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist the Controller with annual audit/tax return work papers and projections for external CPAs.
• Prepare documentation and respond to audit inquiries to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Review bank account reconciliations to identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy.
• Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile/analyze various reports as needed.
• Assist in the preparation of financial management reports including internal and external monthly financial statements, preliminary management reports, and annual audits/reviews.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial reports in compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
• Assist the Controller in the preparation of Annual Shareholder Meeting analyses.
• Monthly close activities, financial reallocations, PDI reports/analysis, and other accounting inquiries/procedures.
• Maintain Notes Payable transaction details for all entities and related documents.
• Manage and update monthly recurring entries for all entities.
• Record, reconcile, and balance intercompany account activity.
• Track, analyze, and reconcile new construction costs; prepare construction draws for bank funding.
• Maintain Fixed Assets, Work-in-Progress (WIP), and depreciation calculations.
• Review and analyze income, expense, and balance sheet accounts, providing variance explanations.
• Supervise accounting department staff members and provide guidance as needed.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of internal control procedures to safeguard company assets.

Qualifications


EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, & TRAINING
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on audits, financial reporting, analysis, and process improvement and documentation. 
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, standards, and regulations.
• Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office Suite; experience with ERP systems preferred.
