Job Description

DESCRIPTION: Position is responsible for promoting and teaching the system and techniques utilized by the high school head coach. Position plans and conducts practices, motivates students, and instructs student athletes in game strategies and techniques.

  1. Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
  2. Must possess some knowledge of the rules regulations, strategies and techniques of the sport.
  3. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents and students.
  4. Some experience as a baseball player or coach is preferred.

Head Boys Soccer Coach, Athletic Director, Building Principal and/or the Superintendent

Supervises:

No direct reports

RESOPNSIBILITIES:

  1. Instructs players in the rules, regulations, equipment and techniques of the sport.
  2. Organizes and directs individuals and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coach.
  3. Assesses player’s skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps the head coach informed of the athletic performance of students.
  4. Supervises athletes during practices and competition.
  5. Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  6. Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials and spectators.
  7. Collects and stores equipment and uniforms in an orderly fashion.
  8. Distributes equipment, supplies and uniforms to students.
  9. Preforms support tasks such as monitoring student eligibility, securing medical release forms and other related records.
  10. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  11. Attends staff development meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
  12. Preforms any other related duties as assigned by the Head Boys Soccer Coach, Athletic Director, Building Principal and/or the Superintendent.

The employee must lift and/or move 25 to 50 pounds, and may assist, move, or retrain students with greater weight when required to intervene in student safety issues.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, lift, carry, move about, hear and speak. Employee may be required to perform extensive work at a computer display terminal.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, or consistent with the subject being taught, but can be abnormally loud on occasion.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students.

The employee may be required to travel in school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students.
