Overview

Responsible for providing engineering and planning support to both office and field personnel as it relates to proper selection and use of heavy lift cranes, rigging, and related materials throughout all phases of the project cycle. Heavy emphasis on lift plan development and design.

Responsibilities
  • Promote and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures
  • Performs crane and rigging studies to ensure project equipment requirements are met
  • Provides input to the project planning activities at various stages (related to lifting and transportation aspects)
  • Develops crane and rigging plans and performs engineering design calculations
  • Assists Technical Planning and Engineering Services Manager with the management of crane pad designs
  • Reviews and approves heavy haul, critical, and heavy lift rigging plans submitted by field personnel
  • Ensures safe rigging operations are being implemented at the project site
  • Provides engineering assistance to field supervision to ensure safe execution of the heavy haul and heavy lift operations
  • Ensures compliance with company standard operating procedures and industry regulations in regard to heavy lift crane and rigging use Develops Construction
  • Documents including crane installation drawings and rigging use procedures
  • Consults with Safety Director on any jobsite safety issues
  • Assists supervisory and crane setup personnel in selecting proper crane configuration for given application
  • Develops methods of communicating information and data associated with proper crane, rigging, and engineering material use
  • Explores the use and feasibility of emerging technology related to the crane and rigging industry
  • Occasionally provides training as it relates to safe crane and rigging use
  • Helps determine proper methods of repair for critical crane and rigging components
  • Assists crane erection personnel in determining proper methods of crane setup/teardown
  • Designs rigging related components when necessary
  • Assists in determining job costs associated with crane and rigging use in the project bid process
  • Determines proper size and quantities of rigging required in project scope
  • Provides general engineering support Attend trade shows and conferences on management and construction topics as presented
  • Travel to project sites as required to foster relationships with project teams, help solve engineering related issues, and pick up/implement lessons learned.
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related major or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 1-3 years professional experience in the crane and/or heavy haul industry is a plus
  • Experience with 3D modeling (Solidworks, Pro Engineer, etc.) is desired
  • Experience with crane and heavy lift softwares such as LICCON WorkPlanner, CRANEbee, Liebherr Crane Planner 2.0, Manitowoc GBP Estimator, COSMO, Goldhofer easyLOAD, etc is desired

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Take reasonable care of your own and others; health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek's Zero Injury principles
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential Understanding of static and dynamic forces, structural design, and basic soil mechanics
  • Ability to construct technical drawings by both manual and CAD means
  • Ability to work well under pressure and within set guidelines
  • Read, analyze and interpret blueprints, professional journals, technical procedures, contracts or governmental regulations
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from project managers, superintendents, clients, customers and the general public
  • Ability to interact and communicate with individuals of technical discipline
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts from basic algebra and geometry to advanced mathematics
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
