Overview:
A part-time reading specialist is needed for the ELL Summer 2024 Program. This reading specialist will work with newcomer ELL students to support foundational literacy skills and emerging English Language development. The reading specialist will collaborate to develop short term goals and intervention plans for students that support their growth in phonics, phonemic awareness, sight words recognition and reading comprehension . Teacher applicants must be elementary licensed teachers and have completed an SEI endorsement course. Teachers with Wilson or Orton-Gillingham training are encouraged to apply. Teacher applicants should be familiar with culturally responsive pedagogy, a variety of assessment strategies and sheltering techniques that will provide student access to interventions and the development of English language proficiency.

Whittemore Elementary (elementary)
Focus of the Program:
This program will be open to newcomer Waltham Public School students at WIDA Level 1 - 1.5 and who will be entering grades 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 (elementary) as of September 2024. Students with limited or interrupted formal education (SLIFE) will be prioritized. Students will be engaged in a variety of engaging activities designed to promote academic language aligned with the 2020 WIDA Standards. Instruction will be culturally responsive.
Terms of Employment:
The program will be held Monday, July 1 through Friday, July 26, 2024, no sessions Thursday and Friday, July 4 and 5. Program times for students are 8:30 am - 12:30 pm for a total of (18 days). In addition to the instructional time, teachers will participate in planning and preparation with theESL Summer Institute program director and summer school coordinator. Teachers will be expected to attend a minimum of two out-of-school time meetings in May and/or June for orientation and planning purposes.
Salary
As per WEA hourly rate for hours worked 50 hours
