Waltham Public School District is Hiring a Long Term Sub__Middle School Special Education Paraprofessional (Aprx. 4/22/2024-TBD) Near Waltham, MA

SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL (Aprx. 4/22/2024-TBD) 

The purpose of this position is to have an individual who can assist teachers in the delivery of instruction to students. 

Qualifications: Qualified applicants must forward cover letter, resume, as well as three current letters of recommendation

Education, Training and Experience:

  1. High school diploma, two years of higher education preferred.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work with students, under the direction of the teacher, nurse/or support staff

Knowledge Required:

  1. Ability to follow directions effectively.
  2. Familiarity with student instructional and disciplinary procedures. 

Abilities Required: 

  1. Ability to implement assigned tasks and activities.
  2. Diligence in monitoring students’ safety and security.
  3. Ability to support and reinforce the teacher's expectations for students. 

Skills Required: 

  1. Able to follow directions promptly and effectively.
  2. Able to relate to students as a caring adult.
  3. Able to work with students on academic tasks assigned by the teacher. 

Supervision:

Supervision Scope:

Supervises and supports students.

Supervision and Evaluation:

Supervised by principal, assistant principal, housemaster or assistant director of special education.

Description of Duties:

  1. Management of the Learning Environment
  1. Implements student goals and objectives, under the direction of the teacher.
  2.  Utilizes educational materials properly.
  3. Helps to maintain a pleasant, neat and well-organized classroom.
  4. Performs scheduled duties promptly.
  5. Fulfills paperwork responsibilities promptly.
  6. Maintains professional competence through in-service educational activities. 
  7. Fulfills other duties as assigned by the building principal. 
  1. Management of Student Needs- supporting the student performance Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
  1. Demonstrates competency in the following area per training and supervision by the nurse:
  • G-tube feeding
  1. Demonstrates competency in the following area per raining and supervision by the speech/language therapist and/or teacher
  • Implementation of feeding plans
  1. Demonstrates competency in the following areas per raining and supervision by the physical therapist
  • Lifting, moving and positioning
  1. Demonstrates competencies in the following area per training and supervision by the teacher 
  • Implementing behavior plans, including collecting data
  • Toileting, including changing diapers 
  1. Demonstrates competency in the following area per training and supervision by the nurse and teacher
  • Daily hygiene
  1. Student Interactions
  1. Assumes responsibility for providing a safe, supportive, structured learning environment for all students.
  2. Relates well to students 
  3. Provides and promotes opportunities for students to develop a positive self-concept. 
  4. Accepts responsibility for the well-being of each assigned student
  1. Professional Qualities 
  1. Adheres the academic, ethical and social standards 
  2. Communicates clearly and appropriately
  3. Dresses appropriately
  4. Accepts constructive feedback
  5. Maintains confidentiality

Salary: As per the WEA contract.
