Description

 Primary Purpose and Function: 

Demonstrate professional behavior with a team-based mentality to ensure that all products produced and harvested by Walters Gardens are produced to the highest quality standard in an efficient, safe, and economical way. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 

Daily Planting  

• Work with Production Coordinator to complete all necessary planting 
• Organize plants and materials for crew/crews based off work (task) list 
• Load and deliver finished goods from Greenhouse location to designated planting site 
• Move planting crew from farm to farm and relocate on the farm to necessary planting sights 
• Communicate with irrigation team and plant health team as directed by Production Coordinator 

Quality Control 

• Teach planting crew leaders proper quality of each planting as directed by Production Coordinator 
• Assure proper planting depth of each item 
• Assure proper spacing of plugs 
• Watch moisture content of plugs and communicate concerns with Crop and Fertility Manager 
• Note overall planting piece quality including: 
• Top quality 
• Root quality 
• Size 
• Disease and insect pressure 

Daily recording keeping  

• Help planting crew leaders record planting data 
• Ensure accuracy of the information being submitted on the planter sheets including: 
• Footage 
• Counts 
• Filed 
• Block 
• Variety 
• Assist Production Coordinator verify any information that needs attention 

Ag Leader GPS 

• Assist Production Coordinator with all aspects of GPS guidance system used for steering planters and recording data 
• Learn GPS system to help other staff members troubleshoot system errors 
• Adjust GPS system to ensure proper plant spacing occurs 

Team Responsibilities 

• Open communication with manager
• Carry a positive attitude and help supervise and train other staff in certain job responsibilities 
• Follow and uphold company policies 
• Utilize your experience within the context of Walters Gardens 
• Become proficient with knowledge of plants, process, and equipment. 
• Complete other duties as assigned by manager 
• Help with Irrigation, Digging Crew, Tractor Operator, equipment maintenance, Off-season help at Zeeland location 

Requirements

 Knowledge and Skills 

• 3-5 years related work/ and or relevant education 
• Bilingual in English and Spanish required 
• Computer skills in Microsoft office a plus 
• Elevated organizational and math skills a plus 
• Ability to lift heavy objects 
• Some weekends and long days required based on seasonality of work
• Ability to obtain WG Hilo operator license 
• Driver’s License required 
• Ability to operate equipment
