JOB SUMMARY: Observe all duties within a pharmacy technician’s scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Opportunities to shadow pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in various pharmacy areas.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school (at least grade 11) or college student.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

• Assists the pharmacy technician in preparing and processing medication orders/prescriptions to ensure that patients and departments receive medications when needed.
• Assists with stock maintenance to ensure that quality in-date drug products and supplies are available when needed.
• Provides pharmacy service to patient care areas.
• Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
• Under general supervision of a pharmacist, performs duties of a pharmacy technician such as filling medication orders, delivering medications, compounding sterile and non-sterile preparations, obtaining medication histories, etc.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to work under stressful situations demanding high concentration and energy level.
• Strong English grammar, punctuation, and spelling skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Effective interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Awareness of common safety hazards and universal precautions to establish a safe work environment.
