VTSU is Hiring a Supervising Dentist Near Williston, VT

Provide oral health supervision of students providing care to patients in the Dental Hygiene Clinic who are without a dental home, low income, and/or dental insurance. Responsible for the supervision of any of the following types of clinicians; dental hygienists, dental externs or dental residents if providing care for program requirements. 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Providing student mentorship
  • Supporting full-time faculty as needed
  • Reading radiographs and going over findings with students
  • Completing student evaluations as required
  • Faculty Calibration exercises
  • Educational methodology CE
  • Prescription writing as needed
  • Approving treatment plans above the scope of dental hygiene
  • Demonstrating techniques and procedures for students as needed
  • Stepping in for students when necessary to provide competent care
  • Helping students write referrals as needed
  • Keeping up with current evidence-based practice recommendations and guidelines

*In addition, there may be times when a patient may request a Comprehensive or Limited oral evaluation by the supervising dentist. Please let us know if you are willing to provide these services with the help of an assistant while supervising at our site.

Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited school of dentistry with a D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree and completed a dental residency program or five years of clinical practice in the field of dentistry.

Note: Preference will be given to applicants with experience in teaching in the dental field.

Special Requirement: Possession of license to practice dentistry in the State of Vermont within six months of hire and current CPR certification. If the dentist is currently practicing clinically they must also provide proof of active DEA license and dental liability insurance.

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and techniques applicable to the field of dentistry.
  • Ability to work effectively with students in an educational setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of current developments in dentistry.
  • An awareness of administrative principles and practices, including supervisory techniques.
  • Ability to develop proposed plans of dental treatment for specific clients and an understanding of public health.
  • Ability to appraise dental health needs and take effective action.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

VSC Non-Bargaining Unit Grade: 12 FLSA: Exempt Part-time, up to 28 hours per week. 

Primary location: Williston
