Vortex Cold Storage LLC is Hiring a General Manager Near Albert, MN

Vortex Cold Storage, located in Albert Lea, MN, specializes in providing temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics to food manufacturing companies in the Midwest. Vortex has a vision to be the industry leader in providing solutions- based cold chain services. To that end, Vortex is completing two additional expansion projects resulting in more space and a second operating location, both opening fall 2024.

Job Summary

The General Manager plays a pivotal role in optimizing operational efficiency, increasing departmental profits, and ensuring the overall success of Vortex Cold Storage. With responsibility for managing day-to-day operations and strategic planning, the General Manager oversees various elements of the business, including staff hiring, budget management, and facility goal setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop strategic initiatives and set goals to drive growth and profitability.
  • Control budgets, optimize expenses, and monitor financial performance to enhance departmental profits.
  • Oversee all aspects of day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency and adherence to company standards.
  • Establish and enforce policies and processes to streamline operations and promote consistency.
  • Foster a culture of productivity and professional development among employees.
  • Lead recruitment efforts, conduct training programs, and evaluate performance to maintain a high-performing team.
  • Evaluate and enhance operational processes to improve efficiency and financial performance.
  • Conduct regular assessments and prepare reports for upper management to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Address operational challenges promptly and implement solutions to mitigate risks and maintain competitiveness.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business or a relevant field; master's degree (MSc/MA) is a plus.
  • Previous experience in warehouse or transportation operations is advantageous.
  • Proven track record in a general management or similar executive role.
  • Strong background in planning and budgeting with knowledge of business processes and functions.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
  • Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities with a focus on problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Radio Frequency (RF) technology is preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting, using close vision, and manipulating controls.
  • Occasional use of distance vision, standing, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. as needed.
  • Work in sub-freezing temperatures may be required in certain instances.
  • Willingness to travel between Albert Lea and St. Cloud facilities.
