Job Description:
- Assist in various assigned tasks, troubleshooting, training, and workflow recommendations.
- Conduct blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, maintenance data recording, decontamination, patient information updates, etc.
- Collect and store specimens following established protocols.
- Provide clear and courteous explanations of venipuncture (blood drawing) or other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal).
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Understand all physicians' orders thoroughly.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as per test orders.
- Ensure 100% accuracy by checking test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
- Prepare specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.
- Accurately label samples and follow specific protocols for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
- Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Participate in annual departmental trainings.
- Handle telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment where required.
- At least 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2-4 years of experience.
