Kitchen Coordinator - Men's Co-Occurring Residential Program

Schedule: Full Time, benefits-eligible!
Pay rate: $18 per hour

Benefits - Approximate full-time benefits package value = $21,000 :

Program Mission Statement

Empowering individuals who experience Co-Occurring mental wellness and substance use challenges to reclaim their lives, build resilience and cultivate lasting recovery through an all-encompassing personal approach.

Position Summary

Contributes to the work of VOA Mental Health Residential Program by providing nutritious client meals while complying with health and safety regulations, community and program contracts, and program guidelines.

Essential Duties

  • Prepare and serve meals according to posted menus at scheduled times each day according to menu plans developed in consultation with licensed dietician.
  • Maintains/organizes kitchen, food storage locations, and all equipment to ensure all is in proper working order and to meet all Health Department standards.
  • Order inventory and create an inventory system for food and kitchen supplies, ensuring sufficient stock levels while staying within budget. 
  • Control food cost and usage by following proper requisition of products, ensure proper product storage procedures, standard recipes, and waste control procedures including checking and maintaining proper food holding and refrigeration temperature control points.
  • Prepare weekly menu according to policy and food orders in a timely manner. Collaborate with the food department for more efficient and cost-effective ways to serve clients utilizing resources within the agency and in the community.
  • Conduct training to all kitchen volunteers to teach safe food handling practices and document participation in the client record.
  • Trains all kitchen volunteers in duties related to the kitchen and to meet all cleanliness standards when performing food related tasks; ex: appropriate clothing and footwear, hairnets, gloves or aprons.
  • Coordinates any kitchen maintenance needs through simple upkeep procedures contact the Program Manager for maintenance needs. 
  • Oversee food storage and food handling practices to maintain the kitchen and food service areas according to safe food handling regulations both in the kitchen and food storage areas.
  • Coordinate, sort and pick up food orders, deliveries, and donations (i.e. Bishops Store House order, Sysco, Food bank, Grocery Rescue etc.)
  • Attends work on a regular and predictable basis.

Secondary Duties

  • Under supervision of Kitchen Manager, Prepare and post approved menu plans and client allergies/special dietary needs in an area accessible to clients while identifying food substitutions as needed.
  • Provide direction in the coordination of food services and general operation of the kitchen with the kitchen volunteers.
  • Supervise assigned client volunteers in the food service area.
  • Performs other functions as necessary or assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Must possess a Safe Serve Certification. 
  • Must have two (2) years of experience in food service for groups.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of mental illness and substance abuse preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all State licensing requirements for Food Service within a residential facility.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Understanding of the principles and methods of planning and preparing meals safely in large quantities.
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications
  • Ability to use tools for their job, a computer, phone, and copy machine etc.
  • Computer literate with familiarity of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to uphold professional boundaries, confidentiality regulations, agency policies and procedures, and interact in a professional manner with a diverse workforce, clients, and the public.
  • Willingness to accept supervision and direction.
  • Become CPR and First Aid Certified.
  • If driving is a part of the job, must be at least 21 years of age, possess a current driver’s license, have a good driving record, and be insurable under the agency liability policy.
  • Must be able to pass Utah-DHS – Office of Licensing background screening and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse workforce, clients, and the public.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs. or more.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, reach, and stand for extended periods of time.
