Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania is Hiring an Associate Director, Supportive Services for Veterans Families (SSVF) Near Harrisburg, PA

Function/Scope:

The SSVF Associate Director will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing all activities and programming for the Supportive Services for Veteran Families. The Associate Director will directly supervise the SSVF program staff under the guidance of the Central PA Area Director. The Associate Director will assist connecting the SSVF program with local and professional agencies and staff to help generate community partnerships, client referrals, and community resources. This position assists with ensuring that the SSVF program operates and delivers services according to program guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), as well as VA grant requirements, VOAPA policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local regulations as they relate to the program. The Associate Director will assist in leading, managing and growing Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania’s program portfolio in the Central PA Area as needed.

Responsibilities:
Includes but is not limited to:

  • Maintain oversight of a single program (in this case, Central PA SSVF) by adhering to SSVF Guidelines and grant agreement.
  • Maintain responsibility for and oversight of the SSVF Program.
  • Directly supervise program staff by providing weekly or biweekly supervision.
  • Provide staff with annual performance review.
  • Ensure staff adhere to program Policies and Procedures, as well as SSVF Program Guidelines.
  • Ensure staff attend all SSVF mandatory training and documenting training completing in their training log.
  • Serve as Direct Supervisor to Program staff.
  • Educate staff on internal and external policy changes impacting our organization.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for all program staff.
  • In conjunction with Statewide Central PA Area Director, interview and hire program staff as needed.
  • Maintain consistent meetings with Central PA Area Director.
  • Program Related Responsibilities
  • Serve and evaluate the health and viability of existing programs and make recommendations as necessary.
  • Research and develop new programs and/or replicate existing programs.
  • Work in conjunction with Development Team to supply information for grant proposals.
  • Serve as a public speaker on behalf of any program under your purview.

Fiscal Responsibility

  • Work with Supervisor to create and manage budgets.
  • Effectively hold others accountable to goals, budgets and expectations.
  • Ability to analyze and understand financial and operational reports.
  • Evaluate program’s monthly financials and ensure it is staying on budget; explain variances and address any issues.
  • Submit annual budget proposals.
  • Prepare budgets and projections necessary for grant proposals.
  • Participate in the preparation and completion of internal and external audits.

Public Liaison

  • Serve as the Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania point of contact for SSVF.
  • Develop and maintain key relationships with grantors, funders and decision makers in particular the SSVF Regional Coordinator and Lebanon VA Medical Center’s HCHV program.
  • Partner and collaborate with other SSVF providers.
  • Develop and grow community partnerships aimed at meeting Veteran family needs.
  • Participate in community events.
  • Provide press release, social media, and website updates/ideas/information, as well as photos and quotes to the Director of Development and Communications.

  • Promote Volunteers of America philosophy and mission through personal attitudes, actions and behaviors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years direct Supportive Services for Veteran Families experience;
  • Program development and management essential;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Strong personal integrity;
  • Adaptable and forward thinking.
  • Must have a driver’s license.

ADA Essential Functions:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, talk, hear, and smell
  • Must be able to withstand being outside in all weather conditions
  • Regularly lift and move up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to identify and/or distinguish colors.
  • Ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while remain fixed on a given point.
