Volkswagen Group of America is Hiring a Material Cost Specialist Near Chattanooga, TN

United States-Tennessee-Chattanooga

Role Summary:
  • The material cost associate is part of the finance team that secures the economic success of the product engineering process (PEP).
  • The material costs specialist is responsible for supporting financial decisions and economic profit targets of the brand Volkswagen.
  • He / She will be responsible for the material costs for specific parts during the development and lifecycle of a development project.
  • The function is part of the North American material cost team and is reporting to head of material cost Controlling.
  • He / She will be responsible for costs during the development and lifecycle of vehicle projects valued at over 7 billion $.
  • He / She will be the project manager (Aggregator) regarding material costs for one pre-series project
  • This function also assures material cost transparency and reporting in different vehicle projects.
Role Responsibilities:

Pre-series: Managing material costs of parts in vehicle projects (40%)

  • Financial evaluation of concepts, parts, modules and comparison of technical solutions
  • Plausibility checks and performing cost appraisal and cost optimization of components
  • Economic efficiency calculation and decision accounting for selection of alternative technical concepts
  • Preparation of financial data for committee presentations and cost reports
  • Coordination of assignments (appointment, content, level of detail) with financial project management and technical development
  • Coordination of working results with financial project management and technical development

Reporting (5%)

  • Generate regular reports with the report systems about the result and costs.
  • Explaining and consent of the report data with the process partners.

Target building for parts in pre-series (5%)

  • Break down from vehicle target to part target
  • Reporting and explanation in procurement meeting

Äko-process: Managing material costs of parts in changing phases (15%)

  • Financial evaluation of parts
  • Preparation of financial data for committee presentations and cost reports
  • Reporting and explanation in Äko meeting
  • Generate regular reports with the report systems about the changing result. Explaining and consent of the report data with the process partners.

Managing the material cost aggregation (10%)

  • Steer a project team to achieve the required deliverables according to the development process

Series production: Managing material cost optimizing (FMK) and changings (5%)

  • Support in cost optimizing process team
  • Generate regular reports with the report systems about the result and costs. Explaining and consent of the report data with the process partners.

Tracking and updating process in pre-series and series (15%)

  • All activities must be tracked and all reports must become an update

Special topics (5%)

  • Various special subjects
Qualifications:
Years of Experience:
  • 5 yrs. automotive knowledge
Education:
  • Bachelor/master degree in mechanical or industrial engineering or bachelor/master degree in business - required
  • MBA - desired
Skills:
  • Advanced technical automotive knowledge
  • Good analytical capability
  • High level of reliability
  • Good communication, organization and teamwork skills
  • Excellent language skills in English
  • Fair foreign language knowledge (Spanish/German)
Specialized Skills - Required:
  • Experience in R&D, purchasing and production
  • Excellent knowledge in different automotive parts, materials and production methods also whose calculation: different metal and chassis parts, steering and brake systems, fuel tank
  • Excellent MS Office knowledge (especially Excel & PowerPoint)
  • Good computer system knowledge
Specialized Skills - Desired:
  • Substantial automotive and supplier industry knowledge
  • Specialized knowledge in several cost calculation areas (CPI, contribution margin, direct cost optimization)
  • Varying working hours due to project driven workload
