Voces Unidas is Hiring a Vice President of Research, Federal Policy and Leadership Programs Near Denver, CO

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Research

  • Serve as the organization’s primary research investigator and oversee the development and execution of the Colorado Latino Agenda research initiative, including design, analysis of the data and publication of quantitative and qualitative findings; 
  • Develop compelling educational materials, such as reports, fact sheets, and issue briefs to inform decision-makers and empower advocates;
  • Lead efforts to use data to tell stories about rural Latinas and Latinos from an asset-based equity lens;
  • Interpret research and data for policymakers so findings are clear and inform their decision-making; and
  • Maintaining an understanding of national and local policy and research to inform the team’s work and incorporate best practices in policy analysis, research, and impact.

Federal Policy

  • Develop overarching federal policy priorities of the organizations with the Executive and Leadership teams;
  • Monitor federal legislative, political developments and trends affecting immigrants and analyze the political impact of breaking events as they relate to the immigration movement;
  • Track legislative developments, policy changes, and advocacy efforts, and provide regular updates and reports to the leadership team and board of directors on progress, challenges, and successes; and 
  • Engage in direct lobbying activities, including meeting with legislators in DC and local leaders, testifying at hearings, and participating in policy discussions, to influence decision-making processes and legislative outcomes.

Leadership and Other Programs

  • Oversee all leadership programs of the organization to place rural Latinas and Latinos in positions of power and influence in their local communities;
  • Develop curriculum, materials and tools for leadership programs across the organization;
  • In partnership with the VP of Policy, Advocacy and Organizing, execute Latino Advocacy Day conference and action days in Denver and DC; and
  • Coordinate all logistical and operational needs of programs.

Relationship Building and Communication

  • Build and sustain strong relationships with federal policymakers and key stakeholders in Colorado to advance our Latino agenda at the federal level;
  • Committed to building strong relationships internally with direct reports and the rest of the staff;
  • Committed to working collaboratively to accomplish the work; and
  • Communicate clearly to the President/CEO when the work is off track. 

Development and Leadership Strategy

  • Work with the President & CEO and the leadership team to implement and align on overall organizational strategy and serve as an advisor and thought partner as needed;
  • In partnership with the Executive Team, develop internal tools and practices to advance the work of the organization with accountability and sustainability;
  • Responsible for cultivating new funding opportunities and managing grants supporting research, federal policy, and leadership programs; and
  • Track and report on key milestones, successes, wins, and challenges. 

Required Job Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Alignment to Voces Unidas’ missions; 
  • Passionate about community organizing and movement-building;
  • Demonstrated experience with research and analysis, including the ability to synthesize data and draw informed, accurate conclusions;
  • 7-10 years experience in higher education, research and/or public policy;
  • Experience developing and executing leadership programs or similar experience;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to convey accurate, persuasive messages to various audiences;
  • Extensive knowledge of legislative and administrative processes and DC landscape;
  • Understanding of and commitment to social change through building the capacity and power of Latinos to change their communities and to participate directly in changing public policies;
  • Ability to learn fast and communicate clearly with stakeholders with short notice;
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and to adjust to frequently changing demands, works independently and collaboratively when needed;
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting legislative and regulatory language;
  • Excellent project management and time management skills: ability to rapidly respond to day-to-day needs while conceiving and implementing more significant projects over time;
  • Access to a car and ability to travel by car to the main office in Glenwood Springs at least monthly and work occasional weekend or evening events, as needed; 
  • Travel to DC or out of state about two to four times a year is expected;
  • Advanced degrees and bilingual in Spanish and English are preferred.
