VNS Federal Services is Hiring a Health and Safety Manager Near Richland, WA

Overview

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of and promote the safety and industrial hygiene program to further develop the safety culture at the ERDF and IDF.
  • Develop and maintain the project-level Safety Improvement Plan
  • Provide industrial hygiene and safety support for development of work plans, activities, and documents.
  • Implement, oversee, and maintain the industrial hygiene program; industrial hygiene equipment and calibration program; and associated safety and health programs based upon conservative decision making in an effort to eliminate injuries, illnesses, and accidents.
  • In conjunction with the Field Industrial Hygienist/Industrial Hygiene Technician, perform industrial hygiene monitoring and sampling in accordance with the approved industrial hygiene program and industrial hygiene equipment calibration program for work performed at the ERDF and/or IDF.
  • Provide SME support for industrial hygiene and safety programs and respective regulatory requirements.
  • Assist project management in planning for adequate resources necessary to provide safety and industrial hygiene support.
  • Prepare and oversee the completion of safety and industrial hygiene reports, plans, procedures, assessments, and project strategies to ensure project activities are conducted in compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Ensure safety and industrial hygiene representation at work planning meetings (including plan of the day (POD) meetings, job hazard analysis (JHA) reviews, plan for tomorrow meetings, weekly planning meetings, and others) to maintain a strong awareness of upcoming field work activities and to use information from those meetings to plan the appropriate industrial hygiene oversight.
  • Provide a strong field presence and perform oversight of field operations to ensure compliance with approved safety and industrial hygiene programs by observing work, mentoring supervision, and promoting communications with the work force.
  • Develop and maintain a relationship with supervision and management that fosters communications of all incidents, no matter how seemingly insignificant, to safety and industrial hygiene.
  • Provide leadership and coordination of employee involvement in implementation of safety and industrial hygiene programs, integrated safety management system (ISMS), employee and company level safety groups/programs, and Voluntary Protection Program activities.
  • Anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control hazards working to eliminate injuries, illnesses, and accidents.
  • Report injuries, illnesses, and accidents to the CONTRACTOR in a timely manner.
  • Act as the main point of contact for all safety and industrial hygiene questions and concerns at the ERDF and IDF.
  • The safety and industrial hygiene personnel shall be present on site during the established site work hours to fully support work activities. Safety and industrial hygiene coverage shall be coordinated as necessary during approved hours outside of the established site work hours (i.e., early starts and overtime).
  • Conduct and document incident and accident investigations to minimize probability of reoccurrence.
  • Submit required reports to the BUYER per contract requirements.
  • Accompany injured/ill personnel to site occupational medical provider and actively manage occupational injury and illness cases. This may be delegated for personal illness cases.
  • Develop and maintain detailed industrial hygiene exposure assessments including baseline characterizations of worker exposures.
  • Provide periodic briefings to the crew to review sampling data and engage in discussions with the crew as needed to address industrial hygiene and/or safety related issues or concerns.
  • Annually evaluate performance for direct-report safety and industrial hygiene personnel

Qualifications

Education & Certifications:

  • BA/BS degree in a related field
  • Must be certified by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
  • Radiological training

Experience & Requirements:

  • Five (5) years’ experience in industrial hygiene monitoring related to hazardous waste site characterization/remediation.
  • Proficient in standard Microsoft software applications including Excel
  • Strong understanding of federal and state policies and regulations, project policies, and requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A thorough understanding and working knowledge of direct reading instruments, personal exposure monitoring, procedure development, implementation, and recordkeeping.
