Product: You will work on the Tanzu Application Service (or TAS) which is a cloud platform based on the open-source Cloud Foundry project that enables application developers to build and run their applications efficiently. It manages containerization, traffic routing, logging, metrics, and build workflows so that engineers can focus on what matters most to them - solving problems for their customers. TAS is a successful product that is loved by customers and has $500 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR).

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

In your first year, you will:

• Deliver architectural recommendations to TAS customers for large-scale deployments covering functional and operational concerns.

• Push the performance and scale parameters of TAS, validate and document system thresholds and advise customers on how to factor them in TAS deployments.

• Deliver consolidated software supply chain for TAS and other add-on products commonly referred to as TAS Tiles.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

In this role, you will:

• Lead technical decision-making and drive high-value enhancements and bug fixes.

• Partner with TAS product and engineering teams in technical scoping on cost and complexity of potential features, identifying key risks, exploration of technology options, and finalizing design and implementation decisions.

• Balance strategic and tactical thinking in maximizing engineering investments in improving TAS stability and scale.

• Ensure technical alignment across teams, coordinate collaboration.

• Coach, level up your teammates and help build a bench of engineers who could take on hard technical problems.

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

Leadership: The hiring manager for this role is Kaarthik Sivashanmugam, Director of Engineering in the Tanzu group. Prior to this role, Kaarthik led and supported teams of engineers and data/applied scientists in building AI framework, deep learning platforms, ML training workloads, and near real time data & analytics platform. This Staff Tech Lead role is a part of Kaarthik's core leadership team.

Team: Our team's philosophy has roots in XP values and Agile concepts like feedback, communication, empathy, and shared understanding. We have a whole host of practices around test-driven development, pair programming, team retrospectives, technical retrospectives, and continuous integration that support those. We wouldn't be truly agile without focusing on continuous improvement, so we also re-evaluate our processes on a regular basis, and encourage process experimentation. We value working at a sustainable pace. We’re a collaborative bunch; from pairing to 1-on-1 time with your manager, there is always a teammate there to lend a helping hand. Remote: This role is fully remote, allowing you the flexibility to work from the location you feel most productive and comfortable, or the location agreed upon with your hiring manager. You will be expected to live within a number of time zones from your team as defined by your business.

For US based candidates, the annual pay range (OTE for commissioned roles; Salary for other roles) for this position is: $139,000 - $331,000. The actual offer will be based on the role, location, and individual candidate experience. Bonus, commission, and/or equity may be eligible for this position.
