VMware is Hiring a Remote Product Manager, Tanzu - Opportunity for Working Remotely Olympia, WA

The Elevator Pitch: Why will you enjoy this new opportunity?

The Tanzu Mission Control team at VMware is seeking a Product Manager to help define product strategy and advance our mission to make Kubernetes accessible to any enterprise. The Tanzu Mission Control team is focused on helping customers more easily manage Kubernetes and operate modern, containerized applications across multiple clouds and clusters. You will play a pivotal role defining compelling and competitively differentiated capabilities, communicating our roadmap to internal and external stakeholders, understanding our customers deeply, and collaborating with marketing and sales to bring Tanzu Mission Control to market. The team is a fast-paced, startup-like environment where you will have the opportunity to build a new business from the ground up while developing skills in cutting-edge technologies.

What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

In this role, you will be responsible for defining the product strategy to evolve Tanzu Mission Control’s platform capabilities. Enterprise customers operate Kubernetes clusters in all kinds of environments, from VPCs on public clouds to massive private data centers. As a Senior Product Manager for this area, you’ll work closely with customers and internal stakeholders to define product strategy. You’ll work closely with engineering and technical program management to drive all phases of the product development lifecycle. And, lastly, you'll provide leadership on go-to-market and launch efforts. Your impact will enable ubiquitous adoption of Tanzu Mission Control to manage any Kubernetes cluster anywhere across VMware’s diverse enterprise customer base.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • You’ll take time during the first few months to ramp up and learn about the technology, product, and process. People are most successful when they bring a growth mindset and embrace the discomfort that comes from learning new things.

  • Success in the first three months means you’ve articulated a set of hypotheses about the key areas for investment. You will also have established a strong collaborative relationship with engineering and technical program management — with an appropriate level of push-pull that’s part of any healthy product team.

  • Success in the first six months means having a prioritized backlog of validated hypotheses that are being executed upon by engineering.

  • Success in the first year means having established yourself as a valued product leader and influencing the Tanzu direction. You’ll work directly with customers to gather feature ideas, incorporate feedback and deliver iterative improvements that enable them to manage container workloads consistently across 10s of thousands of Kubernetes clusters in on-premises and public cloud domains.

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments will you be performing; what skills will you be using?

  • You’ll be comfortable defining and prioritizing product features in a complex technical context

  • You will research, synthesize and document customer use cases around Kubernetes and attendant technologies.

  • You will create a set of hypotheses to address customer needs.

  • You will work with the design team, engineering, and the community to create, review, and champion workflows and other improvements.

  • You will participate in customer engagements to validate the hypotheses, receive feedback, and build a backlog of validated feature ideas.

  • You will monitor and track customer requests and incorporate the findings into actionable requirements.

  • You will track the customer usage of the capabilities and use that to prioritize the next set of features.

  • You will lead your domain of the product through various stages from inception to launch. You will work closely with engineering, design, and information experience teams, define product requirements, and drive end-to-end execution.

  • You will collaborate with customer field teams and go-to-market teams to provide product enablement.

  • You will create solutions that scale to meet the needs of the world’s biggest enterprises.

What is leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

The Tanzu Mission Control product management team is made up of individuals with diverse backgrounds who are excited about delivering a new SaaS offering to enable VMware’s largest customers to build, run, and manage modern applications.

Leadership is committed to strong feedback practices, with a focus on receiving and giving constructive criticism kindly. We value diversity and strive for an inclusive team.
