About the Mission You Will Join:
As an Information System Security Officer (ISSO) you will be responsible for delivering security and compliance expertise to VMD's Customers in support of the IT project, programs, and initiatives. You will be supporting the assessment and authorization (A&A) process following NIST's Risk Management Framework (RMF), determining current security postures, tracking vulnerabilities and Plan of Action & Milestones (POA&Ms), and identifying potential cybersecurity risks.
Your Impact to the Mission:In this ISSO role you will be able to:
  • Assist the Information System Security Manager (ISSM) working with Security Control Assessors (SCAs) and Authorizing Officials (AOs) to develop a comprehensive RMF package including System Security Plans (SSPs), Information Continuous Security Monitoring Plans, and a Body of Evidence to support system authorization
  • Actively participate and lead meetings to review and assess compliance of systems and technology
  • Perform risk assessments based on Federal guidelines and industry best practices
  • Assist teams in identifying vulnerabilities and providing recommendations to reduce cybersecurity risk
  • Articulate and report on cybersecurity risk and compliance to the ISSM
  • Continually improve the cybersecurity risk assessment and POA&M process and program
  • Aggregate and track cybersecurity POA&Ms and risks across projects, teams, and programs
  • Monitor and triage security incidents as appropriate for specific systems
  • Communicate cybersecurity best practices based on policies, standards, and controls
Experience Needed to Be Successful:
  • 5 years of cybersecurity and compliance experience
  • Experience processing a system of record through RMF
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and define the proper methods & procedures
  • Understanding of guiding cybersecurity principles and control guidance
  • Effective writing skills to capture issues and recommendations
  • Strong customer relationship-building ability
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
  • Experience with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) & Transportation Security Administration (TSA) policy, A&A process.
  • Experience with Cyber Security Assessment & Management (CSAM)
  • Experience with FedRAMP Cloud Service Providers
  • Experience with NIST 800-53 Rev 4 & Rev 5 migrations
Basic Qualifiers:
  • Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity or related field
  • Can Additional Years of Experience Substitute for Degree?Yes
  • Required Certification(s):Active certification in one of the following: CompTIA Security CE, CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP ), ISC2 Certified Authorization Professional (CAP), or similar
  • Desired Certification(s):Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
  • Minimum Years of Overall Experience:5
  • Minimum Years of Specific Experience in Field:5
  • Minimum Clearance to Start:Public Trust eligibility
  • Work Status Allowable:US Citizen
