VLS Environmental Solutions is Hiring an Operational Services Specialist Near El Cajon, CA

VLS Environmental Solutions, LLC, an industry leader in industrial waste and cleaning, is looking for an experienced and passionate Operational Service Specialist to join our team! As an Operational Services Specialist, you will perform a variety of tasks related to operations, sales, and customer relations. An ideal candidate should have experience working in the hazardous waste industry both operationally and administratively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures that Health and Safety policies and processes are followed as well as acting in a safe manner at all times
  • Assist with accurate, timely, and complete processing of work orders, manifests, bill of lading and any related back-up documentation to coordinate scheduling of waste transportation to and from customer. Verify information and approvals. Enter data in computerized database
  • Pack paper Hazmat Lab Packs using SDS
  • Assist with processing of work orders and submitting for invoicing
  • Scan manifests on regular basis and maintaining 10-day log
  • Understanding of EPA (RCRA and Non-RCRA) and DOT requirements for hazardous waste disposal and transportation
  • Assist with job scheduling and work order preparation
  • Answer customer calls, answer questions by immediately responding to customer and staff requests. Ensure excellent customer service by addressing customer needs directly or forwarding customer calls to appropriate operations or sales staff and following up with customer as necessary
  • Fill out manifests, bill of ladings and appropriate paperwork for customers
  • Properly label and mark hazardous waste containers for transportation and storage
  • Load and unload containerized waste and tools of various weights from vehicles by hand or using equipment
  • Maintain hazmat class B or C license to transport hazardous waste
  • Assist with Haz waste site clean-up and facility clean-up, perform job walks and inventory of hazardous waste
  • Assist with backing up the Technical Services Manager and Logistics Supervisor when needed
  • Ability to work both in the field and office per business needs
  • Draw up waste profiles utilizing generator knowledge, analytical data, and SDS. Submit to customer for signature and submit to disposal facilities for final approval
  • Lab pack wastes of various hazard classes in the field
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Basic Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Class B or C CDL with hazardous materials endorsement
  • Clean DMV driving record and pass background check
  • Must pass DOT drug screen, physical and road test
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office i.e. word, excel, outlook
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and multitasking
  • Ability to sit at computer terminal or desk 50% of time, 2-3 days
  • Ability to stand for long period of time
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to remain calm when dealing with customer emergencies and problems
  • Must practice high levels of attention to details at all times
  • Be capable of working independently without immediate supervision
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

Preferred Requirements

  • 2-3 years of experience with and knowledge of hazardous materials
  • 2-3 years general office experience
  • DOT Hazmat Transportation training within the last 3 years
  • 40 hr HAZWOPER training and active 8 hour certification
Monday through Friday day shift but must be flexible to work outside of standard hours to accommodate business needs.
