POSITION SUMMARY:

The Department Nurse Director shall oversee and guide nursing and clinical employees in their department. This professional staff person is responsible for performing assessments, developing a plan of care, implementing and evaluating the care. They are responsible for interacting with hospital staff, patients, families, visitors, and/or ancillary departments regarding patient care, concerns and conflicts by identifying and assisting with resolution. This Individual is responsible and accountable for maintaining performance skills for their employees, assuring regulatory and accreditation readiness, and maintaining staff schedules, payroll, orientation, staff meetings, policies, performance improvement, and is accountable for budget compliance and budget variance.

POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS­:

  • Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing required
  • Licensure in the State of Texas as a Registered Nurse (RN) required.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (BSN) or Bachelor’s degree in health care/business related field required. MSN preferred
  • Current CPR/BLS Certification
  • ACLS or PALS (as applicable to department)
  • Considerable organizational and nursing skills required
  • Willingness to be cross-trained to other areas

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE­:

  • 3 years of previous RN experience is required
  • 3-5 years of management experience preferred

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Performs nursing care using sound judgment
  • Implements physician’s orders in a safe and accurate manner.
  • Assists with admitting, discharging and transferring patients.
  • Transcribes and implements new physicians orders
  • Adapts to the needs of the unit by demonstrating flexibility/adaptability
  • Maintains detailed and accurate records of nursing actions
  • Participates in health/therapeutic counseling, teaching/emotional support for patients and significant others.
  • Makes rounds on assigned patients and prioritizes patients’ needs
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment for patients and coworkers.
  • Provides and receives reports in a status of patients at the change of shifts.
  • Administers medication and therapies within the scope of safe nursing practice.
  • Formulates, modifies and implements goal oriented patient care plans according to facility policies.
  • Assumes responsibility to report clinical limitations or the need for assistance to the supervisor.
  • Performs all other duties and as assigned by the nursing supervisor
